Bazrrod demon overlord by shabazik-d62ei53

A Fire behemoth, Bazrrod demon overlord, from the Pits of the Unholy Mountain of Hortann

B A Z R R O D, Princeps Daemonii

Race: High Demon

Class: Demon

Species: Daemoni

Other names: Demon lords, high demons, demon nobles, demon prince, Demon Soul, demon, daemon, Böser Geist.

Allegiance: Dark Legion of Demons

The Bazrrod are thought to be the original type of demon, from which all the others originate, as they created, spawned or bred them.

Description[]

The Bazrrod demon lords had all kind of physical appearances, from gentle spirits with angelical factions to behemoths of iron and fire, as persons, animals or unseen monsters of unspeakable terror.

This was, because a Demon lord was really, rather than the physical construction -their physical body-, the Soul Stone. Over time, the Bazrrod could change their bodies as easily as a human might move into a new residence.

Bazrrod Reproduction[]

When two Demon lords have a son, it's that they give the essence of them, and this is matured -often in an egg-like thing-. When it is matured the new "soul stone", a body is forged by the "parents" for the new Bazrrod Demon lord. In such a way then, only two -or more- demon lords can create new demon lords, and is rather infrequent. As well, the new demon lord is basically, ageless, and without gender.

The bodies, as they are created -or "forged", or how you prefer to call them-, are basically containers for the soul stone. As they are artificial, basically the "parents" can give any appearance to their "son". But as well, if the "son" didn't liked the body, could create a new container for their soul-stone as they want.

Variable and Changeable Bodies[]

So basically, Demon Lords can have any form for their bodies, as they are limited by their imagination -and for keeping the soul stone, secure-.

These bodies, if of a biological kind, will age, and decay. However, if the body perish, and the soul-stone isn't damaged, the demon-lord only needs a new body.

Some demon-lords like to be of neuter gender, and others, to have male, or female -or both genders-, bodies. Some prefer to have forged bodies of materials as metals and stones, while others prefer flesh and bones.

Some prefer giant forms -of any size-, or small ones, being the smaller size constricted by the size of the Soul Stone itself. Some prefer nightmare creatures, other humanoid or person forms, and other animal forms.

The bodies of the demon lords, and the ones of the lesser demons -created from the fracturing of the Soul-Stone to small fractions, the Soul Shards, becoming the the Soul Shards Demons in a body-, were created in the same way , so they can look very similar.

Demonic Features[]

Some add tails, horns, manes, fire, wings and such at will. Much of this was done to emulate surface creatures, and especially to appear as beings fundamentally opposed to human belief systems. In short, the 'demons' of Aiers look like demons from human imaginations because they deliberately chose to. Conversely, other Bazrrods chose to take the opposite approach and deliberately appeared as wondrous beings or as angels so as to pretend to be divine manifestations and confuse humanity. So basically, if they have the skill and care to make new body-containers for their soul-stones, demons can have any form.

Limitations of Body-Swapping[]

However, demon lords don't switch their bodies all the time: because they can't do themselves the change from one body to other, and must rely in somebody else to do the change: And a Soul Stone, without a body to protect it, is the moment when a Demon Lord is most vulnerable. And let's say, demons don't trust much in other demons or servants for such delicate tasks, so in general they reduce to the minimum the "change of containers".

Known Appearances of Demon Lords[]

The Demon Princes[]

  • Saatan the Great, lord of demons, of a giant, horned and winged black creature.
  • Satman the Apprentice, chose the form of a regular appearing human man.
  • Nigromante of Tok-Thoria had chosen the form of a werewolf, and multiple other forms.
  • The Witch King of Dol-Nur, of a skeleton-like shadow or specter, covered in black robes.
  • Anutka the Hook (Anutkahook), chose as well a giant, horned form, but who stand as a giant.
  • Paprika Lord of Terror, appeared as a large, winged 'devil man' with enormous horns.
  • Paimon reputedly appeared as man with an effeminate face.

Other Bazrrods[]

The Unknown Nature of the Bazrrod Demons[]

Origins[]

Much of the demons is unknown, especially of the Bazrrod demon lords. Some think, they are then energy, locked in a stone. Others say, meanwhile, that they were something else, something old, to not disappear, used these stones to keep their essence. Nobody knows for sure, and the demons never told. They were rather secretive about themselves.

Some see the demon lords as a union of Soul-stone and the forged body.

The Bazrrods sometimes speak of themselves as being 'in exile'. It is known that emerged from Mount Satanmet with monstrous, tentacle armed bodies. This has given rise to a theory that they swam in the magma below the crust of the planet and were banished from that region by a larger community of undiscovered Bazrrods, but this only a theory.

Reproduction and Titles[]

Each Bazrrod is an "overlord", or a "demon lord", or a "demon prince". Such titles were, less than any implied political or physical power, but due to the capability of creating new Bazrrods when pairing with other Bazrrods, and of "splinting" their soul-stone in soul-shards, to create lesser demons.

Speculation: The leading demons might have been the greater producers of children? Saatan might possibly be the greatest and oldest of the Bazrrods on the surface in terms of children or sub-demons produced? The 'Father' in a figurative or literal way of the known Daemoni?

However, precisely what this means is unknown. The greater bazrrods often use noble titles such as "King", "Duke", "Marquis" and "Count". It is not known if or how these titles relate to reproduction of new bazrrods or other demons. There are potentially several different ways that the titles could relate:

  • Creation of new Bazrrods with another Bazrrod in a quasi-sexual way by producing a new Soul Stone from components of the two (or more) parent bazrrods, and inert minerals becoming part of the new Soul Stone.
  • Creation of new demons by presumably fusing components of a Soul Stone with a Soul Shard, and inert minerals becoming part of an independent Soul Shard, or something that exists between a Soul Stone and Soul Shard.

In that way, if a Bazrrod have children with a minor or lesser demoness, these children will be powerful demons, but not "overlords", or be counted among the number of Bazrrods.

  • Generation of Demons via splitting the Soul Stone. This is the most common way of reproducing, giving rise to all manner of sub-demons with variations of power, capabilities and manufactured bodies. Generally, the larger the soul shard used, the more powerful and more self-aware and intellectually capable the sub-demon. Izrhims being very powerful, and a class of sub-bazrrod that is known to have existed when the bazrrods arrived on the surface.

Other, smaller, soul shards, giving rise to much weaker, and less autonomous, sub-bazrrod demons.

The great weakness of sub-bazrrods is that if the parent Soul Stone is destroyed, all the Soul Shards directly derived from the Soul Stone will eventually perish as well. However, the Soul Stones are virtually indestructible by most any mortal means. Only certain other bazrrods are capable of destroying a bazrrod, if they have sufficient power, and possibly if they know the secrets.

  • Soul Shard descendants giving rise to demons without a soul shard. The descendants of a soul shard demon seem to hold some portion of the demon power of their parent without having a soul shard. It is not known how this is spread by flesh and blood.

Speculation: manufactured, flesh and blood bodies might have magic manipulating components such as Elfkind or Dragons use to generate their magic auras? These components might be engineered to work in the same 'resonance' as a soul shard so as to amplify the capability of the soul shard? The power of these components passing down to new generations without need of a soul shard, perhaps via DNA, or mitochondria, or some unknown cellular organelle?

Power[]

Known Types of Powers[]

All bazrrods have some adeptness at these sorts of power:

Elemental[]

Bazrrods can control aspects of the four elements of Air, Earth, Fire and Water. They might, for example, generate local earth tremors, summon great gusts of wind, or control the flow of water, or produce bursts of flame.

Speculation: It is not known if splitting their soul stone to create Izrhim elementals of Air, Earth, Fire and Water would weaken their control of said elements? Although, the crystalline structure of a Soul Stone would suggest uniformity, which would suggest that overall power might be weakened by creating the Soul Shard, but specific powers would not be. It remains an open question

Psionic Capabilities[]

Bazrrods have 'mental' powers. They can perform various feats of telepathy, able to 'speak' silently with each other or their soul shards, or even able to summon 'meetings' of mortal agents from perhaps some kilometers away from each other in some 'psych-scape' or dream world.

However, it would not seem that Bazrrods can casually pick up on information from those mortals near them, or actively strip deeply held secrets even from those that they would expect to be lying to them.

Bazrrods have been observed performing feats of psychokinesis sufficient to easily stop weapons or human sized adversaries. Although, based on the usual limitations of magic and power in Aiers: their abilities at 'grasping' or 'shielding' against fast moving targets, particularly arrows and bolts would be expected to be greatly limited.

Either through 'Remote Viewing' or access to the 'Collective Unconscious', or by telepathic communication with distant agents, bazrrods seem capable of being aware of events and developments outside of normal means, and time, of physical messaging. On the other hand, uses of magic techniques to perform such feats have occurred in stories, so how bazrrods might communicate from a great distance through paranormal means might not typically be through simple telepathy.

Energy Manipulation[]

Perhaps using the same basis as elemental and apparently psionic powers, bazrrods can generate power to heat objects up, or cool them down, or create sudden explosions, or redirect the flow of energy, such as heat, and probably electricity.

Magic[]

Bazrrods have a considerable ability to use magic. Presumably any spell that a mortal spell caster could learn or invent, a bazrrod could do so as well, and probably with greater power and facility?

Known Limitations[]

Demon Lords vs. Minor Bazrrods[]

Although title 'Demon Lord' is a socio-political term without any scientific or defined weight describing inherent capabilities of power, nonetheless, the most powerful of bazrrods tend to be the demon lords.

As the terms might imply, Bazrrod themselves seemed to vary greatly in power and capabilities, although they were all quite powerful. Doubtlessly, ages of experience made some superior to those of equal or greater power who did not have such experience and accumulated skills.

It is generally accepted that the size, and perhaps some quality, of a Soul Stone determines the power of the Bazrrod that it belongs to. The Size and quality of the Soul Stone in question being a function of how much time and effort the Bazrrod parents put into its creation.

Some minor Bazrrods are known to be much less capable of impressive feats of forceful power or displays of magic than the most powerful sorts of Soul Shard demons. The least impressive Bazrrods might be outdone in impressive physical displays of power by, for examples, the powerful, elemental class of demons known as Izrhim demons, or the most powerful defender or 'major domo' lieutenants of the great Bazrrods.

However, even the weakest of bazrrods have a much more flexible and broader range of powers than any Izrhim, or Soul Shard demon, capable of intricate and subtle use of magic as would a studied and competent mortal spell caster. This makes even the weakest of bazrrods as potentially quite capable functionaries and agents.

Magic Limitations[]

Bazrrods have their inherent powers of elemental control, 'psionics' and energy manipulation, they also have the powers of using magic. If, indeed, there is a true, underlying difference between the source of these categories of power.

In any case, bazrrods can utilize magic, and have a large mana pool to work from.

Such use of magic, would be limited by the usual limitations of the world of Aiers. Specifically, magic relating to gross mass manipulation, matter transmutation, shielding from physical objects, being truly omniscient, or able to truly manipulate time to effect events that have already occurred or alter the flow of time is considered impossible.

Werewolves show that physical transformations are possible, but werewolves are, by far, the most adept class of demon specifically known. Some Bazrrods probably have greater abilities of transformation, such as the Nigromante of Tok-Thoria who seems especially known for it. However, these questions are confused by the fact that bazrrods often change physical bodies as the housing of their Soul Stones. So when a bazrrod should change form, it is most likely due to a change of body, than the working of magic.

Like most magic users, bazrrods are not shy at wanting to appear more powerful than they really are. Especially as the demon lords claim to be living gods in the mortal world.

Transformation magic that allows considerable transformation of a target other than the magic user does not seem to exist. Specifically, it is currently considered impossible for a human to be changed into an animal by either a witch or even a mighty bazrrod.

It might be said that healing magic is a form of physical transformation. But the differences being that healing in the World of Aiers is fairly minor, and is generally incapable of, say, restoring most lost organs. Also, it is an acceleration or alteration of a natural physical process than the subject being forced into a new form at the snap of fingers.

Numbers of Bazrrods and Their Executive Role in the Demonic Dark Legion[]

There were many Bazrrods, but never is clear, how many of them existed. Normally, each demon state is ruled by a Bazrrod, and often, the closer, high ranking members, are Bazrrod as well. Some Bazrrods didn't have political power... Many would serve the Dark Legion as officers or as powerful and dangerous agents, but would not have a high office or title.

But, the Seven Demon Princes and the 66 demonic dukes, princes and kings, they were all Bazrrods, save for the known exception of the black dragon king Barûm as one of the Seven Princes. And normally, each Legion of the Demonic Dark Legion was commanded by a Bazrrod as well.

Speculation: It is unknown if Laisha as the Queen of the city-state of Skallgard, counted among the numbers of the 66 demon lords?

During the history of the Dark Legion, there were changes among the Seven Demon Princes and the 66 demon lords, as some rose or fell in power, some were vanquished or succeeded.

Known Bazrrods[]

The Seven Demon Princes[]

Primary Bazrrods. There are ten demons on this list, two of which advanced for certain reasons. Anutkahook rose after Satman was removed from his position after attempting to betray Saatan, Prince of all Demons. The Witch King of Dol-Nur rose to this category for his own nation building skills, and for freeing the demonlords that were imprisoned after the First War of the Power. Marwas once was removed from the Seven to make room for the great dragon Barûm, later reinstated.

Two members are not demons, but a dragon and great dark elf sorcerer. This list is not complete, but represents the Dark Legion after the end of the Demonic Republic era where holders of the title would keep the title for quite some time. The demon prince Paprika was dead by this period, but is left on the list for being the first demon prince removed by conflict with another bazrrod. A much more complete list is to be found on the page Seven Demon Princes.

________________

  • Barûm, the great dragon god-king, ruler of Brûm. One of the two beings who were non-Bazrrod and non-demon who held the rank of 'The Seven Demon Princes', killed by forces of Altarin, Emperor of the High elves of the Empire of Whide Axis.
  • Zaarg'Adhuul, the Dark Elf King, ruler of Zaghäl. The second of the two beings who were both non-Bazrrod and non-demon to hold the rank of 'The Seven Demon Princes, killed as the result of The Cataclysm collapsing his city from beneath his feet.

Always Seven[]

They are Seven, although selected more than from their power as demons themselves, but also as political leaders -but often they were indeed the strongest among the demons.

They always were seven demon princes, but due the political organization of the Demonic Republic, so in the moment one or more of the seven princes fell, others took their place. Normally the strongest of the demons, but not always. Anutkahook was a hulking behemoth, but not the most powerful demon: in his case, the fact that he ruled a powerful empire helped him get the "office!"

Non-Demon 'Demon Princes' and 'Lower Level Beings' in the Dark Legion and Government of the Confederation of Free Peoples[]

Non-Bazrrods in Positions of Power[]

The demon lords did allow some access to their governance apparatus to non-Bazrrods and even non-demons altogether. There were reputedly several hundred bazrrods, but they were spread out in multiple occupations and purposes, and not all were inclined to lead or to serve. Many positions of power were held by soul shard demons, but those too were ultimately limited, so it made sense to allow mortal beings into the Dark Legion of Demons apparatus; usually in the form of 'low management' or representatives, and mostly later in their history. But many generals and even commanders of whole legions and certain territories could often be non-Bazrrods, usually low level 'demon' people.

Pumori of the White Fang being a good example of a low demon who commanded and ruled a fair amount of territory, or the Werewolf Council which represented a huge portion of the territory of the Dark Legion of Demons. Bazrrods most often held very important positions in the Dark Legion of Demons, but it was also true that being a Bazrrod was not always a prerequisite to holding important offices in the government or military.

Non-Bazrrods and Non-Demons as 'Demon Princes'[]

There were moments of time when even the rank of the seven 'Demon Princes' was open for non-Bazrrods or even non-demons. The only currently known being to become a 'Demon-Prince' was the great dragon god-king Barûm, the ruler of the Black dragons of Brûm and the multi-ethnic country of Brûm. His appointment was done so as his peoples and nation would formally join the Dark Legion (or Confederation of Free Peoples for the proper political term), and to avoid a needless and costly war with Barûm, his fellow dragons, and the armies of Brûm as the Black dragons were powerful indeed, and the dragons' nation was in an expansive mode as well at the time.

A would be claimant of being one of 'The Seven', and also the second in command 'The Apprentice' under Saatan was the Dark Elf King of Zaghäl. He was one of the contenders for the second in command position in the War of the Four Black Kings. He was the 'First Born' of the Zaghäl elves and a powerful sorcerer. However, he failed in his bid for the position of being 'The Apprentice' of the great Saatan to Anutkahook. However, for the value of the elven sorcerers produced by his city-state nation, he would be promoted to one of the Seven by Anutkahook and Saatan.

The 66 Demon Lords[]

Secondary Bazrrods. These are Bazrrods who are known to have spent most of history holding one of the 66 seats in the Demonic Republic. There are currently 76 demon lords on this list, which should not be considered a complete list nor an authoritative division between the great demon lords and minor Bazrrods. This represents an example of how Human conceptions of the demons might be wrong, and also that some powerful or capable tertiary bazrrods may have advanced to this status as some on this list might have been removed from their positions or destroyed. Also, Anutkahook and the Witch King of Dol-Nur, Marwas and probably Bael, and others were originally part of this category, or fell to this category, before rising to the Primary Level of the Demon Princes due to political moves.

Tertiary Bazrrods. Bazrrods of either lesser power, political savvy, skill and/or experience than the others. Frequently of the children of other Bazrrods.
