Dark Legion XXVI Painbringer was a Dark Legion levied by the demon Satman in the 1649 a.a.H. The legion symbols was two crossed whips. The legion appears to have still been in existence near the end of the Third War of the Power

History[]

Under the Early Dark Legion[]

Dumian Wars[]

The XXVI legion was founded by Satman during the 1649 from vassals of the demons -human and Kanov barbarians of the plains-, giving the command to the demon Bedeseem during these times, as the armies of the Dark Legion where gathering for a new campaign against the Dumian, fighting in the Battle of the Hannian Fields of the 1651 a.a.H, where the Early Dark Legion was defeated.

After it, the XXVI Legion needed to be reorganized, being replaced many of the humans that fell or abandoned the dark legion after that defeat by Ogres, Goblins and Orcs, who will become the core of the XXVI until the end of the Dumian Wars and the Fall of Dume at the 1676 a.a.H.

Under the First Dark Legion[]

During the Kanovhook Wars (1711-1869 a.a.H) the Dark Legion XXVI was detached first in Dol-Nur, taking part in the campaigns in Morod, such as in the Battle of the Fields of Morod at the 1721 a.a.H, against Görodor the Blackhand, taking part in the campaigns of Iztah, Polforia and Ded. They later where to be part of the armies of the Demoness Iztah, garrisoning the ominous province. During this time, Succubae (Succubus) will replace many of the other demonic and demon-servant captains and officers, remaining in the region of Izath until the Battle of the Abyss of Dhermon Hel in the 1855 a.a.H.

After the battle, the depleted ranks of the XXVI Legion were replaced with the new breed of the Grey orcs, (Ozcura Orcs) taking part in the last campaigns to suppress the resistance of the last remnants of the Kanov polforian kingdoms, were Bedeseem, his ozcura soldiers and succubae officers will become known for their cruelty and cruel ways.

As the Kanovhook wars ended at the 1869 a.a.H, The Dark Legion XXVI earned as honor for his actions the name of Painbringer.

In the preparations done by the Dark Legion for the First War of the Power, the XXVI Legion Painbringer took part of the Car'haadhook war (1883-1888) -specially the winged succubae-, and while that time the Bedeseem the Painbringer dedicated his time and force to fulfill his own appetites and pleasures -being named by his forces as the God Pleasurable Torments-, and as some of the forces garrisoning Tempo-Katzoine, his forces dedicated to the Pleasurable Torments, to raid settlements and quarrel with other legions, rather than training

Maybe because of this, when the First War of the Power began the XXVI Legion wasn't as impressive as it once was: equipped for the show, their weapons and training were more to capture prisoners and torture them rather for the battlefield: they suffered important casualties during the campaigns against the north-western human kingdoms. While it was seen they weren't as combat worthy as other front line units of the Dark Legion, they were detached to occupy the kingdom of Tardos, which was under the heel of the Dark Legion:

However, the brutality and violent repression made the local population to raise in arms in an irregular conflict, that will be answered by the local Dark Legion forces with more brutality.

When it was known the Venerable Empire of Whide Axis forces and their human allies had landed in the south, in the shores of Begian Bay (2209), the XXVI Legion of the Painbringer was mobilized along the others to the south, to face the invading elven-human force:

They will fight in the Battle of the Cold Plains. There an  army of the Whide Axis of near 140.000 warriors fought against 42
legions of the Dark Legion -around 252.000 warriors-: after the long and tiring march to reach the enemy, the Dark Legion suffered a terrible defeat.

Bedeseem, commander of the XXVI, fell in combat, as most of their forces, though some of the surviving XXVI Legion forces were able to retreat to the north -to Tardos- under the Succubus Samantha, where they had to face an open rebellion along with the remnant of the occupation forces of the Dark Legion in human lands.

The remnants of the dark legion in Tardos will retreat to Polforia at the 2214, where the XXVI legion was reconstituted under the command of the Succubus Samantha.

Then, they will fight in the Battle of Montes Cado, where one more time the Dark Legion was defeated, escaping the surviving forces of the XXVI Painbringer Legion to the mountains of Gredkër.

Remnant of the Dark Legion[]

After the defeat of the Dark Legion in the First War of the Power, in the mountains of Gredkër the remnants of the XXVI Legion of the Painbringer -composed mostly of Ozcura grey orcs, along with some ogres and succubae officers- will organize themselves as the Tribe of the Painbringer.

During this time, under the rule of the Succubae Samantha, Samara and Veronica and the incubus Haesaron, the Painbringer will become a distinctive culture.

Their former commander, Bedeseem, will become in the Painbringer religion known as the Immortal God of the Pleasurable Torments.

The tribe specialized in raiding near settlements, to practice what they learned from the "Immortal God of the Pleasurable Torments", tormenting and torturing their victims often to their death.

However, if the prisoners of their raids managed to survive the torments long enough, then this captive was claimed as king of the tribe for a single day -only
to be sacrificed in a bloody ritual on the dawn of the following day-. However, if this captive "king" managed to
lead the Painbringer in a victorious battle, then the captive was to be accepted in the tribe - only after a small "naturalization"
ritual, which is necessary for the captive's permanent transformation
into a more fitting being for the Painbringer tribe.

This made the Painbringer feared -and hated.-, and while their warriors were often despised by some of the stronger Remnants of the Dark Legion as undisciplined, more torturers than warriors, several of the dark realms appreciated precisely the Painbringers for these "skills".

Some of the members who deserted from the Painbringer tribe, formed the Scarhealer tribe.

At the end of the Middle Human Age, the Painbringer Tribe will enter in the sphere of influence of Entartea, and become again a legion rather than a tribe.

Under the Reunified Dark Legion[]

Second War of the Power[]

When the Great Demon Lords were liberated from their exile at Mount Demonach and the remnants of the dark legion where reunified in a single banner, the Entartean Painbringer Legion will become the XXXI Dark legion Painbringer (while the Scarhealers will be the XXXIV)

The XXXI Painbringer will take part of the catastrophic campaign of Sargos of the 2440 A.A.H., where -along with the other legions- the XXXI will be destroyed.

However, as the Painbringer settlement continued to exist, for the following decades they will continue to provide torturers and interrogators to the dark legion, and as well some companies of warriors.

Only at the 2480 A.A.H. will the Painbringer Legion will be reconstituted as the Dark Legion IX Painbringer, as one of the legions of the City of the Wicked of Zaghäl.

During the War of the Four Black Kings the XXVI supported the Dark Elf King of Zaghäl, who will be defeated, which meant a temporary disbandment of the XXVI legion at the 2539 a.a.H., but reconstituted shortly afterwards under the name of Dark Legion XXVI Painbriger at the 2540 a.a.H, after a political restructuring of the command, according to the will of the winner of the demonic civil war, Anutkahook.

Third War of the Power[]

The XXVI Legion will take part in the campaigns in Aels during the Third War of the Power, at least until the Cataclysm. The cataclysm wiped out all of the demons that once ruled with a iron fist as well. When this apocalypse arose, the XXVI legion were wiped out.
