Walt-Martsers - Laisha, Queen of Skallgard

Laisha the Succubus, one of the architects of the Fall of Roccasone and the queen of the demonically reformed kingdom of Skallgard. Roccasone, burning in the background, was the first human kingdom to fall in the Second War of the Power, it was the opening conquest in the Campaign of Sargos

The Second War of the Power was the second of the three wars fought between the Confederation of Free Peoples and the human-elven alliance of the Empire of Whide Axis, fought between the 2.434 to the 2.539 a.a.H.

Background[]

After the First War of the Power (2203-2223 a.a.H), the human-high elven alliance (with support of other peoples, as dwarves), of the Empire of Whide Axis defeated the Dark Legion of Demons. This will mark the end of the Dark Age of Demons and the beginning of the Middle Human Age.

However, while the human-elves were able to capture the main demon lords and were able to destroy their physical bodies, they didn't know how to vanquish in a permanent way their soulstones. Neither did they hunt down the lieutenants of the Dark Legion and the other demons that escaped from the last battles of the war.

Because of this, they decided to keep the Soul Stones of the demonic princes in a fortification in Mount Satanmet on the Island Demonatch, guarded by a special sovereign military order -the Order of the Watchers of Hellsgate, until the High elves could learn and understand better the demonic magic, and learn of a way to destroy the soul stones of the demons.

After the war, the Whide Axis decided to try to pacify the former demonic lands of Polforia, founding colonies of elves and humans. While successful at first, as the armies of the High Elven empire departed largely back to Ushaenor and the disputes between the human kingdoms themselves and their non-human alliances weakened the alliance, in Polforia the former lieutenants of the Dark Legion began to rise their banners as Remnants of the Dark Legion, fighting each other for dominance and as well the colonists.

While the Whide Axis had defeated militarily the Dark Legion, they didn't pursue their remnants, giving them a chance to regroup, and as well, neither did they had attack the root of the reason why the non-human peoples joined the Confederation of the Free Peoples. Even so, the further expansionists and colonialists policies of the humans and their elven allies would only further alienate non-humans against the human Five Kingdoms of the Northwest of Aels, and as they were more interested in their inter-human conflicts, they didn't prevent the rise of the remnants of the Dark Legion.

In Polforia, after about 200 years of anarchy and war between the self-proclaimed successors of the Dark Legion, the Witch King of Dol-Nur will rise as the hegemonic leader of the demonic remnants: but rather than trying to become himself a demonic king, knowing he wouldn't be able to rule over his undisciplined demon brothers and sisters, he decided to march with an expeditionary force to the Island of Demonach, and break free from their prison the soul stones of the demon princes in Mount Satanmet.

The Sovereign Military Order of the Watchers of Hellsgate, without funds or support since long as it was seen that the demons weren't anymore a treat, were already since long in decline, and weren't able to resist the expeditionary force of Dol'Nur.

The Demon lords were free.

Outbreak of the War[]

With the Soulstones of the demon princes in his hand, The Witch King of Dol'Nur gave them again physical bodies, so the demon lords walked once more in Aiers.

While Dol'Nur was powerful, it will be only with the demon lords that all the remaining remnants of the Dark Legion will reunite one more time under a single black banner. However, this wasn't an easy task to do this feat, and less to rebuild the Dark Legion to their former strength, so for five years Polforia, once more under the rule of the Dark Legion, began to rearm, raising again their legions, forging weapons and armors for their armies while trying to keep only as rumours the return of the demon lords.

Most of the demonic kingdoms, who had been independent for about two centuries in Polforia to wage war for supremacy decided to bow down to the reunited dark legion, but some will resist (and will be swiftly dealt with in full force, to put in line any other rebels and reluctant ones back into the dark legion.)

Meanwhile in the human Five Kingdoms of the Northwest of Aels, as the rumours of the return of the demons became more and more insistent, as they remembered the fall of their divided kingdoms in the First War of the Power about two centuries ago from their historians, they decided to form an alliance in preparation for a possible invasion: an alliance that should incorporate the kingdom of Sargos.

Sargos, which in the past centuries had grown into the most powerful of the five human kingdoms of the Northwest, waging war against their neighbours, was finally defeated in the Sargonic Wars (2409-2419 a.a.H), but as soon as the 2431 a.a.H King don Camilo III of the Huneeus dynasty had already returned, deposing the pretender of the throne backed up by the other human kingdoms. While this had first worried the four kingdoms the return of the Huneeus, as said the rumours of the return of the demons worried them even more: so Sargos will assume a leading role in the Northwest, preparing their armies and rebuilding the old border defenses which had decayed in the last decades.

Meanwhile in central and southern Aels, as well the human kingdoms prepared for war, Purpurian and Uslen as they looked worried how again there were raised black banners on the unholy mountain of Hortann.

However this time, the war won't begin again in the battlefields of the First War of the Power, but instead in the east of Aels.

Siege of Anutkian[]

Having learned of the return of the demon lords and that they were one more time gathering their armies, the first ones to answer the threat were the Loranor Kingdom and the Light elves of Nubla, who already had been facing problems against the Dark Legion Remnant of Anutkahook, knew that this will only get worse once the forces of the Dark Legion were completely reunified, so they decided to march to Anutkia before the demons reached their full power.

While at the beginning of the campaign they were able to route and defeat the armies of Anutkahook, their siege of Anutkian -the fortress of Anutkahook- failed, as they didn't control the seas, and were forced to retreat as a Kanov army of Kanovait marched to relieve the sieged fortress.

The Campaign of Sargos[]

The strategic plan and events of the Campaign of Sargos

At the year 2439 a.a.H, the right hand of Sataan, Satman the Apprentice, who had traveled from his fortress from the Unholy Mountain of Hortann to Polforia to review the state of the armies of the Dark Legion. Upon inspection, it was decided the armies of the Dark Legion were ready for conquering the human, elven and loranor realms that opposed the Dark Legion in Aels: an army as was said it wasn't ever seen before: 178 legions -between 900.000 to 1.200.000 warriors, according to Dark Legion chronicles, and of three millions, to human historians-

And, so began the Campaign of Sargos.

However, in order to march over the Human Five Kingdoms of the Northwest, while could be used the mountain passes of Dargoina, the most direct access to the human kingdoms of the northwest, the Degoland Pass was defended by the bulwark of Humanity, the Gate City of Roccasone, while in the north, closing the Navatiak pass, was the Sovereign Military Order of Nortender: so in order to march over the Five Kingdoms, it was needed to take over Roccasone.

By the 2440 a.a.H, Satman ordered his forces to be divided in three main columns -one to cross the paths in southern Dargoina, one in the Navatiak Pass and the main force into Degoland itself through the Degoland Pass-, while minor forces would cross the Dargoina Mountain range all over the available mountain paths.

Since their return in the 2434 a.a.H, while they had been preparing their armies, the Dark Legion as well was careful to try to keep the secret of their strength, and that the return of the demon lords to only remain as rumours: and the humans of Roccasone, too proud, hadn't believed either in the return of the Demon Lords -they firmly believed instead it was a façade, and instead was one more time one of the Dark Legion Remnants claiming hegemony over the other demonic princedoms- and these humans felt safe behind their powerful walls.

Satman didn't want either to show his full force against Roccasone -to not give enough time for the Five Kingdoms to prepare-, and fearing that in the case of a prolonged siege his endless armies would be more of an encumbrance than a benefit due to the problems of feeding such forces, he decided to take Roccasone with treason, secrecy and surprise: The demons will contact in secret the ambitious successor of the Throne of Roccasone Valerian de Roccasone and as well, will send a werewolf commander of Mondwargh -once a slave in the human city and leader of a slave revolt- to distract the defensive efforts of Roccasone and begin a slave revolt -Pumori of the White Fang-.

This scheme will be successful: and while fighting a rebellion of slaves within the city, with werewolves cutting their communication and supply routes to the Five Kingdoms and the traitors of Valerian opening the gates of Roccasone to the marching Dark Legions -a force of about 20.000 to 40.000 warriors commanded by the Bazrrod general Vortigern-, the city will fall.

Most of Roccasone's inhabitants will be slaughtered, and only a handful of survivors were able to escape, while the rest were enslaved by the dark legion: the city, sacked and destroyed, will become known as Skallgard, the Garden of Skulls, a demonic outpost for the marching dark legions under the rule of Succubus Queen Laisha, who was a crucial part of the taking over the human city.

With Roccasone in demonic claws, it was the moment for ordering the crossing of the Dargoina mountains, and all the available legions were to march against Sargos.

While it was needed speed, so the dark legions arrived before the news of the fall of Roccasone, the sacking of the city slowed down their advance, and while the werewolf and ozcuras skirmishers under the command Pumori of the White Fang were very successful in cutting off the communications of Roccasone to the Five Kingdoms, it was precisely because of this lack of news that the garrisons of the border fortresses of Degoland were already on guard: so when finally some Roccasone refugees and survivors arrived with the news, these quickly extended like fire:

"The Dark Legion has returned, and it's here"

The quick advance across the Degoland Pass planned by Satman became instead a muddled, slow advance as he could only advance some few legions at a time to siege and storm the castles and forts of Degoland, with the bulk of the legions awaiting in the Polforian lowlands, meanwhile the news in the northern front against Nortender wasn't good either, as their advance had been stopped.

However, the distraction forces that were crossing the smaller mountain passes across the Dargoina Mountains were very successful in distracting the human kingdoms, as at first Huncle will commit most of their forces to guard the Öster Gate Pass, (see: Oster Gate), the same with Degoland. Meanwhile in the Dargoina pass of The Cauldron, Satman's legions crossed to the Barlans without problems, and were now marching in the plains westwards towards Erenian.

With the news of the advance of the Dark Legion, menacing all along the Dargoina Mountains -with possibly a main attack trying to force the Degoland Pass, the sargonic king don Camilo III was to lead the forces of the Five Kingdoms, calling to arms their armies.

Satman, growing impatient, and while it was clear in Nortender his legions weren't capable of destroying the Knights of Nortender, he wanted that his forces that were marching across the Barlans -sacking and burning Erenian- to arrive at the Osorio Valley at the same time the main force to cross the Degoland Pass, so he ordered more forces into the Dargoina Mountains to assault the Degolandic castles and forts, finally forcing the pass.

While Camilo III was quick to rebuild again the fortifications and raise the armies of Sargos at least to the point of the Sargonic wars since his return to Sargos at the 2431 a.a.H, and he counted in with the support of the Five Kingdoms, acknowledging the danger of the Dark Legion -especially after the fall of Roccasone-, the humans of the northwest had gathered an army of about 100.000 men, aside of the garrisons of the castles and fortifications -as most of the forces of Degoland and Huncle were already defending their eastern borders, and it was needed to send a force to help Erenian-.

While a powerful army, as the Degoland Pass and Erenian had fallen, Satman was finally able to move into Degoland the bulk of his legions: And against the armies massed by the dark Legion in their great invasion of Sargos, there was little that the Christian human armies of the northwest could do: As Camilo III realized the size of the invading forces of the Dark Legion, he ordered to abandon Degoland, retreating to the western bank of the Osorio river, leaving only garrisons in the strongest degolandic castles to slow down the advance of the Dark Legion -and in case they weren't assaulted, to menace the supply and communication lines of the demonic armies-.

While in the south the River Guard and Tardos tried hold the line, in a quick succession the cities and castles of Degoland fell, destroyed and sacked by the Dark Legions, and the line of the Osorio River proved to be impossible to hold for the human armies of the sargonic king Camilo III, who after the fall of his own capital -Millbridge- ordered his army to retreat again westwards, toward Karentia, seeking for a better defensive position to face in battle the Dark Legions.

However, as the Dark legion raiders and flying columns of ozcuras, werewolves and other light forces flanked the Sargonic army, was fought a series of desperate battles in the human retreat, until it was clear that, in the risk of being encircled, Camilo III and his armies were to fight a final battle in the plains of Sargos rather than Karentia, a battle where it was to be put on the line the destiny of the Five Kingdoms.

Camilo III, with an army of about 80.000 men, were to face some 160 dark legions -according to human historians, about three millions servers of the Dark Legion, and according demonic accounts, a force of 982.000 warriors.-

In what will be known as the Battle of the plains of Sargos, the Christian armies of the Five Kingdoms fought fanatically, with their heavy cavalry doing one after the other charges against the dark legions, with the bloodbath lasting more than three hours: however, despite the best efforts of the humans, the battle was lost and their forces encircled. Camilo III, King of Sargos and commander of the human armies fell, and as well the king of Tardos and of Huncle, and only some ragged last positions, fortified in farms and hills tried some desperate last stands:

and when the humans' luck seemed to be all out and the fate of the Northwest sealed, that was when the Prophet appeared on a hill that dominated the battlefield where the Dark Legion was standing triumphant: It was then when the Prophet, using unknown magic -in what later the human historians will call a miracle- was able to command the Sand Beings, which were unleashed over the surprised demonic armies:

A sand storm will cover the battlefield, and for five minutes the remnants of the royal guard of Camilo III and the knights of La Cruz will see, astonished, as the Prophet held his cane, as only the sound of roaring sand and screams escaped from the sandstorm.

Then, the Prophet fell to his knees, his cane broken. As that happened, the human knights hurried to the Prophet, while the sand storm disappeared as quickly as had appeared: All the demon armies that were on the Plains of Sargos were destroyed. While the humans didn't believ what they saw, they came by the Prophet. There, the princes of the Northwest heard the death-bed council of the Prophet, who told them that the only way to truly defeat the demon lords, was to hunt for the Holy Relic of Eden.

The Prophet had died, unknown who he was, from where he had come and how he had acquired such power. The Sand Beings disappeared back to the Desert of Death as mysteriously they had appeared. And the ragged survivors of the human army that fought in the plains of Sargos saw the Demonic army annihilated: from when defeat was certain, they were now victorious. A Pyrric victory, but with the key of the knowledge and hope for a final victory against the demons.

Among the fallen, was Satman, but his soulstone was unscratched, and recovered by some of his surviving lieutenants. While the main force of the Dark Legion was wiped out, the flanking forces, garrisons, the flying bands and routers, and as well some fortunate ones who escaped the sand storm, and in general all the ones who hadn't fought in the Battle of the plains of Sargos had survived: But as they were ignorant of what caused the wrath of the Sand Beings, or what mysterious magic the humans possessed and if they could unleash it once more time, began a hasty retreat in disorder, with only few commanders of the Dark Legion being able to keep some cohesion in their forces.

The King of La Cruz gathered the remnants of the army of Camilo III, and with the reinforcements that arrived from Tardos, Huncle and La Cruz began a persecution of the retreating legions: however with his own forces spent and tired, they couldn't annihilate the remnants of the legions of Satman in the battles of the Osorio River, and Degoland, and in their pursuit, while they were able to retake all lost land, when they arrived at former Roccasone -Skallgard-.

The Dark legions, commanded by the Succubus Queen Laisha and Satman -who had his soulstone once more placed in a new body- will keep there their line, and the Christian armies will clash and waver against the walls of the city, unable to reach Polforia.

That was the end of the Campaign of Sargos, with basically was a return to the status-quo-ante-bellum, with the exception of the fall of Roccasone. While the Dark Legion suffered a major defeat in the Battle of the Plains of Sargos, they will quickly begin to rebuild their forces to their former strength: but more than the human Christian armies stopping them to return, it will be the doubt in the black soulstone of Satman and the other Demon Lords, that if they were to unleash again their armies in the Northwest, the humans will again use the Sand Beings... so instead, they prepared to defend the Olga's Wall they began to rebuild and strengthen.

The Five Kingdoms learned from this the full power of the unleashed Dark Legion, and knew that they couldn't trust a miracle to happen again and save them from the demons... so instead, the princes of the Northwest decided to follow the advice of the Prophet, and while they prepared for the next invasion of the Dark Legion, at the same time much of their efforts will be directed to acquire the Holy Relic of Eden in what will be later the Holy Wars of Eden, in order to defeat the demon lords.

The Northern Campaigns[]

The First Campaign of the North, 2440-2442 a.a.H[]

The Northern Campaigns began with the great campaign of Satman of the 2440 a.a.H, when Satman ordered one of his armies to march to the north, to try to force the pass of Navatiak, to then attack the Five Kingdoms of the Northwest:

For this, Satman commanded 8 legions to march to the Northwest:

They were to face first the Sovereign Military Order of Nortender, and then the Kingdom of Navatiak and the dwarven realm of Helmed, before reaching the Northern Marches of Huncle.

However, in their initial advance the Dark Legions will be bogged down by skirmishes made by the Brother Knights of the Order of Nortender, who faced the Dark Legion in delaying tactics, as the Order gathered their forces.

In the first main battle of the Northern Campaign -the Battle of Skollbär - was initiated by forces of the Order of Nortender under Brother Knight Franken, who despite the strict and clear orders of the Master of Nortender to remain in positions without attempting any offensive action, -having even authorization in case of increased pressure to retreat-

Franken was convinced that the Nortender heavy cavalry training and equipment made up for their lack of numbers, and pressed for offensive action: on his own initiative and against orders, he will attack a numerically superior demonic force. Because of the hastiness of the Nortender attack, the Dark Legion Emerged victorious. However, the knights were able to retreat, joining with the main Nortender Army.

To try to encircle and destroy the Knights, the demon commander divided his legions into three columns, with numerous raiders and routiers to devastate the region of Nortender: However the Knights, thanks to their scouts, noticed the division of the demonic army to encircle them, and quickly the Master of the North ordered them to march forward, to face one of the three demonic armies on the shores of the Lake Vollwär:

Caught between the lake and the Knights -and with the lake as well separating them from their possible reinforcements on the opposite shore-, the Knights will annihilate the dark legionnaires: the battle resulted in the almost complete destruction of the First column of the Dark Legion and the suicide of its commanding general.

Without taking time to rest, to avoid losing the element of surprise, the knights quickly rode over the second demonic army that hurried to support the defeated legions: The sudden cavalry charge shocked the Dark Legion, who hadn't expected to face an enemy with initiative and their lines crumbled. However, the tired knights couldn't effectively conduct the pursuit of the retreating dark legionnaires.

Knowing of the two successive defeats at lake Vollwär due to the arrival of retreating survivors, thinking they were facing a larger human force, panic spread in the ranks of the third demonic column, and the formation began to disintegrate even before battle, with large desertions.

In the follow up Battle of the Hundred Lakes, the Order of Nortender pushed the Dark Legion across its entire front, eventually ejecting it from Nortender, even advancing into territory of the Dark Legion: However, further progress was hampered by the arrival of Dark Legion reinforcements, menacing the Nortender Order flank.

Because of this, the Order of Nortender retreated back to their castles, as the new armies of the Dark Legion massed: After the three successive defeats, the commanders of the Dark Legion will be more careful, and instead will slowly advance, laying siege on one of the castles of the Order after the other, while the Order tried to send relief forces to break the sieges:

The war in the north had largely stagnated, and as the armies of the Dark Legion were marching into Sargos and was lost hope for a quick victory against Nortender, Satman ordered his northern armies to keep the line, awaiting for reinforcements after the Sargonic defeat.

However, with the catastrophic defeat of the Battle of the Sargonic Plains for the Dark Legion, news reached the northern armies of the demons: a heavy blow for the morale, large forces will desert and many of the sieges will be lifted as some whole legions broke ranks, abandoning some of the captured castles

The Order of Nortender, supported by warriors of the kingdom of Navatiak and the Dwarven Mines of Helmed will advance, reconquering the territory lost in earlier stages of the war:

As well, with the news of the defeat of the demons in the Sargonic Plains, there will be rebellions among the Amazons tribes under Dark Legion rule, which will be supported by Nortender.

The Second Campaign of the North, 2452-2456 a.a.H[]

As a result of the catastrophe for the Dark Legion suffered in the Battle of the plains of Sargos, the recently reunified Dark Legion fell into chaos and disarray: Many demon lords had lost their bodies, and not all the Soul Stones had been recovered, so many demons tried to seize the opportunity to become rulers, and several demon-servers attempted to break free from the Confederation of Free Peoples. Only the fear of humans advancing over Polforia using the power of the Sand Beings, will stop the Legion from completely breaking apart.

After a period of internal conflict -with coastal raids launched by the seafaring human nations on the shores of Hieyokscream, but not the feared main offensive-,the Dark Legion was reorganized and restructured.

By the 2452, as a shy attempt -testing if the humans again used the Sand Beings, the Dark Legion sent an army against the Order of Nortender in what would be the Second Campaign of the North.

While in total a numerous army, fearing the use of Sand Beings, the demonic commanders never gathered all their forces for a decisive battle.

The Knights of Nortender were able to resist the attack of the dispersed dark Legions, and a holy war was called by the Bishop of Karentia, being rallied forces from Navatiak, the Northern Marches, Huncle and La Cruz, along with naval forces of Valknyria.

Demons will be defeated and forced to retreat, but they took in account that humans either weren't able or didn't want to use the Sand Beings.

The Third Campaign of the North, 2464[]

As a result of their experiences facing the Order of Nortender, the Dark Legion will organize their own knights, the Order of the Fallen, and they continued the process of reorganization, restructuring and consolidation of the Dark Legion.

However, the -perceived- inactivity of the demons was interpreted as a signal of weakness by the Order of Nortender, and as well due the arrival of news of the success of the Christian armies conquering the Holy City of Eden the previous year from the Muslims filled with a religious, crusading spirit to many Humans.

A crusade was called, and the Order of Nortender advanced for first time since the reunification of the Dark Legion over demonic lands as an invading force -rather than a local offensive-

While successful at first, the crusading Christian human army will face a great defeat in a winter battle against the Dark Legion and its remnants were forced to retreat at the 2465 a.a.H

Only the arrival of reinforcements from the Five Kingdoms of the Northwest, Dwarfen armies of Helmed -and the powerful castles of the order- will prevent the fall of Nortender.

The news of the Fall of Eden, Camilo V the Pious and other defeats in Zarhuy that happened the same year the crusade in the north began, will demoralize the Christian armies, who again decided to settle for defensive warfare.

The Holy Wars of Eden and the Expansion of the Dark Legion[]

The Holy Wars of Eden within the Second War of the Power[]

After the failed attempt of taking back Roccasone, final bloody episode of the Campaign of Sargos, failed, the Five Kingdoms of the Northwest as well were in the dire need of time to replenish their forces, reorganize and rebuild their destroyed realms.

In a fragile situation, they mostly bluffed to the demons about the possibily of using again the Sand Beings, doing some skirmishing actions in the Dargoina Mountains, or sending their fleets to make coastal raids in Polforia:

However they knew they couldn't defeat the Dark Legion -even in their weakened state- on a full out war.

It was then seen among the kings, princes and bishops of the northwest, that the only real option was to follow the advice of the Anonymous Prophet, and go to the Holy City of Eden in Zarhuy, to reclaim the Holy Relic that was to put an end to the Demon Lords of the Dark Legion.

Between the 2445-2449, the Archbishop of Karentia and the main bishops of the Kingdoms of the Northwest, the Alan Isles, Ne'Sargos, the far north, Hannian and Dumia will try to convince the princes to join their forces, proclaiming the crusade in churches, cathedrals and masses.

With the support of the kings of Sargos, La Cruz, Tardos and Botania, the Holy Wars of Eden will be proclaimed at the 2452, as an emmisary was sent to the Unlic Empire of Uslen, to gain their support -but only remaining vague of the ultimate goal of the campaigns, being a tightly held secret why they needed Eden and the Relics it guarded, as otherwise the demons will realize humans lacked the free use of the Sand Beings.

The Unlic Empire, although recalcitrant, helped: This will be the beginning of five holy wars, fought between Christian and Muslim armies between the 2452 to the 2499 a.a.H for the Ruins of Eden and its Holy Relic: while originally seen as a holy war in principle, ambition of princes and nobles fighting in Zarhuy to carve their own kingdoms will be detrimental, and ultimately the Christians will have to abandon the control of Eden to the Muslims, but they had been able to steal the Holy Relic and bring it to Karentia.

Some say, the Holy Wars were largely a waste of much needed resources and manpower, that could have been used against the Dark Legion, and that if they had shared the secret and ultimate purpose with their Muslim rivals, much bloodshed would have been avoided.

Expansion of the Dark Legion[]

The Dark Legion, which saw the Holy Wars of Eden and the aggression of the Christian human realms in Zarhuy as a symbol not of a desperate quest, but of a society that was sure enough of its forces to embark on a conquest campaign, that surely had at its disposal the Sand Beings and other unknown powers.

The new strategy then devised by Satman was the need to expand the Confederation of Free Peoples, beyond Aels, thus strengthening its power base for a final showdown with the aelian humans.

Within Aels, a significant advance will be the alliance they achieved with the Barbarians of El Yermo, at the 2468 a.a.H: while before there had been some sporadic support of some tribes of El Yermo, this formal and larger arrangement was seen as a way to keep pressure against the southern borders of the Five Kingdoms, and also Hannia and Purpurian, giving as well territorial continuity to the Dark Legion down to the Titanizk Mountains and the deserts of Iperto.

Hieyoks[]

While since long the demons had some presence across the Hieyokscream Sea, having been contacts made by demons even before the First War of the Power, the Demons didn't have important footholds in Hieyoks. While in the south, the Nigromante of Tok-Thoria expanded across the sea of Tok since at least the 2438 a.a.H, demons emissaries and lords were sent across the Hieyokscream sea, to fold into the Confederation of Free Peoples the realms of Near Hieyoks.

However, the demons not only had interest in Near Hieyoks, across the seas of Tok and Hieyokscream, but as well far Hieyoks: while some emissaries marched across the interior of Hieyoks, Nutks of Anutkahook had reached and traded with the Binese Empire already by the 2449 a.a.H -and exploring the shores of Far Hieyoks and western Ushaenor as soon as the 2450 a.a.H-.

By the 2470 a.a.H, the Dark Legion had recruited allies and vassals from Hieyokscream to the borders of the Binese Empire: the Anqueael Ice Elves, Hieyoks Ice Giants, Oni Kingdoms, Galaw and Tigger Realms became allies of the Dark Legion, along with many pagan humans of the steppes of Hieyoks, with the demons turning their religions to demonic cults. Others became vassals, as some Kanov realms and the humans of Hieyokscream: but they weren't unopposed in Hieyoks:

the Kanov Confederation of the North, snow elves, (see: Northern Snow elf and Southern Snow elf), and the human Krakavian principalities will face them across the Hieyokscream Sea, and across the Tok, the Dannu and Farsia, while in far Hieyoks stood the Binese Empire, and many of the new allies of the legion demanded help against their own enemies...

Ushaenor[]

At the 2450 a.a.H, the first Nutk sailors reached the western shores of Ushaenor, after having followed the shores of Hieyoks, all the way from the Tok sea to northern Ushaenor: but for now, they were only exploring.

As soon as the 2459 a.a.H, -through secrecy and using the shipping and trade routes of the same Sargonic, rather than the long route discovered by the Nutks-, demonic spies will reach northern Ushaenor and travel across the elven continent to reach the southern remnants of the old Hake Empire, to enter into contact with the Hake elves.

There, the demonic spies and diplomats will for years try to convince the dark elven courts of the Hakes to join the Confederation of the Free Peoples, promising them in exchange for their help that after the final defeat of the humans and high elves, they would once more rule Ushaenor and rebuild their ancient empire. By the 2466 a.a.H, finally an agreement was reached and the southern Hake kingdoms were to join the Confederation of the Free Peoples.

With this alliance, the demons hoped to counter the Empire of the Whide Axis to send forces in future campaigns to Aels, and as well to try to oppose the rising human power in Ushaenor: however, the role of the Hake kingdoms during the second war of the power will be limited, with only minor campaigns being fought in southern Ushaenor.

An ally on the other side of the world, they couldn't really provide each other support or coordinate actions: however, many ambitious Hakes, who wanted to learn the demonic arts and rule their own realms, will hear the call of demons, and following long, dangerous routes, will reach the demonic holds in the land of Polforia.

The Dark Elf of Zaghäl and the High Elf -Hake War of Aels[]

While the Hake-Demon alliance wasn't very effective and didn't gave many gains to either Hakes or demons during the Second War of the Power in Ushaenor, what will become a symbol of the commitment of the Hakes to the Confederation of the Free Peoples will be the creation of the Dark Elf Hake Kingdom of Zaghäl in Polforia, at the 2476 a.a.H.

The last foundation and greater city of the Hakes and the dark elves, Zaghäl was built with demon support and orcish hands under the surveillance of Hakes: a great city of mages, dedicated to the Dark Arts, it was said to be a twisted mirror of the High Elven city of the Wizards of the Coast, Dahl'Haran.

The Hakes, powerful in the dark arts and with legions of slaves provided by the demons, were quick to try to test their power against the last High elves of Aels: the city of Lorthen.

Marching across Kazrrad, a Hake-Demon army with their orcish and beast-men servants and slaves will reach Lorthen at the 2483 a.a.H: while they surprised the High and Sylvan elfs initially, the powerful walls of Lorthen stopped the invasion, and from the forests, Sylvan elves harassed the attempts to lay siege to the city. Unprepared to withstand a long siege, still feeling unprepared for a long committed action, the Hakes of Zaghäl decided to retreat: While Lorthen claimed it as a victory, the Hakes considered it instead a test.

They will try again at the 2496 a.a.H: marching one more time across Kazrrad, the armies of Zaghäl tried again to destroy Lorthen: However, the High Elves, supported by the Loranor Kingdom, Car'Haad, sylvan elves, high orcs and mountain elves defeated this second invasion, routing them back to Kazrrad.

This defeat determined the Hakes to try to make an alliance that encompassed all the Dark Elfs of Aels and near Hieyoks, which will finally come to be at the 2511 a.a.H:

The Zaghäl Dark Elf Confederation -primariy composed of Hakes and Drow, but as well with representatives of most of the elves serving the Dark Legion, along with their slave orcs and beast-men- will emerge a third time at the 2512 a.a.H.

The powerful Dark Elven army will defeat the High Elves of Lorthen and lay siege to the city, defeating numerous attempts to relieve the city:

for more than six years, the city resisted, and for six years, Zaghäl kept the siege, defeating any relief attempt: however, by the 2518 a.a.H with the news of the massing of a powerful army by the Loranor and the peoples of Nubla and Bierteno, the Dark elves were forced to lift the siege, swearing to return.

And they would: during the War of the Four Black Kings, an Army of the Zaghäl Confederation arrived at the city, attacking it by surprise, sacking and destroying it at the 2537 a.a.H: the Dark Elf King of Zaghäl, while was fighting the other three Black Kings, had ordered this army to the south not only to have vengeance against Lorthen, but to try to advance an army to eastern Aels, to oppose Anutkahook and the Nigromante of Tok-Thoria:

However, they would be defeated afterward by Anutkahook in the Battle of the Old Forest Road, which forced the survivors to retreat, and which opened the doors for Anutkahook to march across the Barlans to try to reach Polforia.

The Secession of Tok-Thoria and Anutkia[]

Secession of Tok-Thoria. The Wars of the Necromancer[]

The Nigromante of Tok-Thoria had been one of the higher ranking demonic princes that escaped the fall of the demons in the First War of the Power, and for long he hid in his islands in Tok-Thoria, using the Tokeri Kanovs to do his bidding.

In secret, he raised again his fortresses and armies, and bred a new race of servants, the Kokto Orcs, that he first unleashed to the world in the decade of the 2390s.

He had his own ambitious plans to build an empire around his own figure, and when the Witch King of Dol-Nur requested for his help to liberate the demons, he didn't obstruct him, but neither did he significantly help.

With the return of the demons, he was quick to swear loyalty, but really he wasn't thrilled to be again under the shadow of other demonic princes.

He will help to rebuild the fortress of Hortann for Satman, and being the more powerful demon lord of the south, his armies made up much of the numbers of the southern Dark Legion, being instrumental in helping Satman to gather again under his banners the legions of Hortann, and as well providing some needed relief to Anutkahook and his realm during the Siege of Anutkian.

While he will send a largely nominal force to the Campaign of Sargos, to present his commitment with the cause -one legions of Black Orcs, (Kokto Orcs), of Tok-Thoria, along with a legion of mercenaries under Tokerí payroll-, while in the north Satman directed his ambitious Campaign of Sargos at the 2440 a.a.H., the Nigromante had to attack Enkel and menace Purpurian and the Unlic Empire of Uslen, to avoid their trying to support the Five Kingdoms of the Northwest: this first invasion of Enkel and the eastern unlic provinces will be the First of the Wars of the Necromancer.
