The process of imperialist expansion by the High elves of Ushaenor, when they founded colonies and kingdoms in Zarhuy, Aels and Hieyoks during the Late Elfic Age, before the Age of Invasions.

History[]

Beginnings[]

The reasons for the High Elves to spread themselves outside of their home continent of Ushaenor was due to war with the blue skinned elven people known as the Hake who had long been their cultural 'mentors' and political 'landlords' in the evolution of High Elf society over the previous 20 centuries and more.

By circa 1000 b.a.H. conflict erupted into what would become unending war between elven peoples known as the Elf wars. High elves would surge beyond their former confines of limited territory in northern Ushaenor, (such confinement was one of the reasons for the conflict), and in establishing new homes elsewhere on Ushaenor on captured territory, or further north in Hieyoks, or on coastal islands, and so, began the process of colonization.

Reasons for Maritime Exploration and Settlements[]

Early Colonization as a Strategy[]

The Hake Empire fought hard against the High elves but failed to defeat them and had exhausted themselves by 850 b.a.H. After fighting more defensively most of this time, the High elves were able to start taking the initiative in the long running series of wars.

Their colonization efforts were like a "second" arm at work in the long running conflict. After being confined to northern Ushaenor for so long, the High elves had prepared to flank the Hake empire by colonization. The first High elf explorers expanded to the closer Hieyoks shores to the northeast of Ushaenor and the Alan Ocean Isles, concentrating their expansion initially in the 10th century (10th Century b.a.H., 1000 - 901 b.a.H.) in these first nearby colonies -and recently annexed Ushaverican territory-

Speculations: One might wonder why the High elves couldn't do this earlier? Presumably they had been barred by the Hake and the Hake might have had a navy to prevent them? Or else, the High elves had insufficient boats and built and improved them after the early Elf Wars had begun?

Eventually, the High elves would successfully plant and grow several nation sized colonies on the continents of Aels, Zarhuy and Hieyoks. This would eventually ensure victory over the Hake empire that originally controlled most of large continent of Ushaenor.

Later Colonization as a Belief in Imperial Destiny[]

First a survival strategy to support their war effort, with the stagnation of the Elf wars in southern Ushaenor -with the Hakes cornered in their strongholds-, the Imperial expansion became a justification for the continuation of the weakened empire, trying to demonstrate that the empire was still on a Golden Age, and as well following the high elven belief of their divine destiny to rule the world, bringing civilization to the barbarian (other elves) and rule to the monsters (non-elves).

Speculation: The name for the High Elves' empire: "The Venerable Empire of the Whide Axis" might have developed at this time, being 'Venerable' so as to supplant the much older Hake Empire as the font of civilization; and of 'the Whide Axis' so as to denote the entire planet, the Whide Axis an imaginary political line being similar to the equator in geography..

Inter-Continental Colonization[]

Colonization of Aels[]

The first High Elven explorers will arrive to mainland Aels at the 821 b.a.H., with fleets of ships bearing colonists who would arrive in the following years.

The first foreign cultures to fall to the High elf colonial effort will be the Unnline flairie dark elves in southern Aels, at the 809-731 b.a.H. Then continued with the prairie flairies and the Aelian rossnes empires, as Malvor, Aiesec and Montthafen, and the realms of non-elves.

Colonization of Zarhuy[]

Around the 440 - 400 b.a.H, they continued their expansion into Zarhuy, where they will face a strong opposition by the orcs of the plains of Antor in the War of Antor.

Colonization of Southern Hieyoks[]

At the 200 - 120 b.a.H, the High elves began a further expansion into Hieyoks, in the area of the Sea of Tok

Colonial Development and Decline[]

The colonies will rise to become the jewels of the Empire, and some of the greatest new realms of High Elves in the east will cast into shadows some of the metropolises of Ushaenor, but this colonial dominance wasn't uncontested, as often these colonies will face rebellions, as the Flairie rebellions of the last years of the age Before the Apparition of Humanity.

As well, due the federal nature of the Empire of the Whide Axis and the progressive weakening of the figure of the Emperor of the Elves, many of the more successful high elven colonies and kingdoms began to search for more and more autonomy from Ushaenor, and often the new High Elven kingdoms will clash against each other over border issues, or with their parent metropolis as they sought to gain more autonomy.

The colonies were quite close culturally to each of their home metropolis, and some of the tensions of Ushaenor between Gold and Silver High Elves will sharpen due to conflicts between oversea colonies.

Most High Elf colonies would ultimately be destroyed by a cessation of support and trade due to the massive seemingly natural disasters of the Age of Calamities related to the Apparition of Humanity and the invasions of non-elves in the Age of Invasions.

Aels[]

The Western Kingdoms: Aiea

  • Cairn'Hayrn, Kingdom founded after conquering Aiesec. It was conquered by the Weseuros, being one of the last High Elven states of Aels to fall.

The Southern Kingdoms

The Eastern Kingdoms[]

  • Lorthen, an example of late high elven imperialism, founded after the First War of the Power in the forest of Lorthen, a sylvan elf settlement.
  • Dirith.
  • Montthafen, originally a sylvan elven state, made a vassal state of Dirith before its complete annexation.

Hieyoks[]

The Kingdoms of Sukke

The Kingdoms of the North

The Kingdoms of Tok

Zarhuy[]

The High Elven states and colonies founded in Zarhuy were:

The Northern Kingdoms[]

The Seven Kingdoms of Antor[]

The Seven Kingdoms of Antor, carved in the plains of Antor from Antorian Orcish lands and hunting grounds as a result of the long elven-orc wars of Antor, depended on the control of the land trade routes between the northern and southern colonies of the elves, along with trading in ivory, gold and slaves. Commercial competition led to conflict and division among the Antorian high elven kingdoms, and often conflict ended in wars between the realms. Divided and fractured by the Age of Invasions, the seven kingdoms were finally defeated by the Antorian orc horde.

The Western Kingdoms[]

The Eastern Kingdoms[]

  • Nortolon, Golden High Elven Kingdom in the region of the lakes, in Eastern Antor. Once one of the poorer elven realms of Zarhuy, under constant attack of dragons and orcs, they retained an active defense, and during the Age of Invasions, accepted refugees from fallen elven kingdoms, they were able to survive.

The Southern Kingdoms[]
