The Koktos (or known as well as Black Orcs or Tok-Thorian orcs) were created by the Nigromancer of Tok-Thoria, by breeding the race from cave goblins, the Ur Dur, Kanovs and enslaved humans from the Kingdom of Uslen, and Green orcs from Kahraad.
With time and patience, he bred a new race to serve his dark will, the "black orcs", called in that way because, in difference to other orcs, they had distinctive colour tones, which varied from brown to black, and sometimes like burned or charred skin, with red or greenish tones.
The mix wasn't completely homogeneous, and in some orcs where more clearly a proximity with one or other ancestors (orcs, ogres, goblins, hobgoblins, trolls, humans, kanov, demons, elf, between others!), showed in their physical apparience, intelligence or other features.
The Nigromancer bred the Koktos for his legions of Horror, to increase the numbers of his diminished demons due to the wars, and the Koktos quickly gave the quantity for a numeric superiority everywhere, but being dispensable slaves, their equipment was bad, as well the intendence service and discipline, lacking training as well, which made them rather mediocre warriors.
Like previous demon creations of servants, the Black orcs of Tok-Thoria were meant to be slaves and servants, replacing the kanov and human mercenaries and other auxiliary forces by loyal troopers: And while in the north of Aels the Ozcura Orcs will fulfill that role for the Dark legion of Polforia, in the south of Aels the Koktos became the back bone of the armies of Tok-Thoria and Hortann.
In the south, the demon lord Satman the Apprentice first tried to breed the Hattak -fauns- and later the Ur Dur -Cave goblins- However, the Dark Legion defeat in the First War of the Power, stopped the implementation of the Ur Dur into the ranks of the Dark Legion:
And with the Great demons exiled and the Empire of Whide Axis victorious, the Nigromante of Tok-Thoria laid down, hiding in the archipelago, fearful of following the same destiny of exile into the mount Demonach as the great demonlords.
During the Middle Human Age, feeling more confident, the Nigromante of Tok-Thoria began to build his own demonic principality, and during the XXV century, he bred new creatures, mixing Kaiehm Green orcs, Ur Dur goblins, Kanov men and other creatures, his own slave-army: the Koktos, or Black Orcs of Tok-Thoria.
The first time these mixed orcs were seen, 'early drafts' were unleashed as a test by their master by 2391 a.a.H., bringing chaos and destruction like an anarchic horde to southern Aels, until their defeat at hands of the trade cities united under Zannas, the Empire of Uslen and the Hebonnor, the remnants escaping into the underwolrd of Kazrrad, where despite their defeat at hands of the Drow of Negeémiliel in the battle of the thousands caves, remained a permanent danger as they joined the goblin crusade of the Bloody Apple.
In the 2430, when the Nigromante of Tok-Thoria rose again, claiming his empire, the Koktos will become the backbone of his armies. The new legions had a frustrating start at first, but eventually defeating attempts at defense by the Principalty of Rudloffur and the Kingdom of Enkel and conquered territory along the east coast of the south mainland of Aels.
An unintended consequence of this was leaving the Witch King of Dol-Nur a free hand to free from their exile the Great Demon Lords, being the beginning of the second Coming of Darkness, and the age of the Koktos in 2434 a.a.H.
Between the second half of the XXV century until the XXVI century, during the Second War of the Power, the Koktos will play a key role in the southern campaigns of the war, and as well in the succession of Tok-Thoria from the Dark Legion, fighting against the Empire of Uslen, Purpurian, Enkel kingdoms, Nutkia, over northern Zarhuy and the shores of Tok, in the forests of Nubla and during the War of the Four Black Kings.
However, it was noted the several weakness the black orcs had, and for the Third War of the Power (2633-2675 a.a.H) the Nigromante of Tok-Thoria began to replace them with the Pixerianos.
Like with other demon creations -as the Ur Dur-, there are great differences between individuals of the Koktos, varying from size -as small as a dwarf to almost as tall as human-, physical appearance and skin tones, there existed several black orc races.
Once a Kokto of Tok-Thoria was born, he was separated from his biological mother, and thrown into the pits, separated by genders, where they were raised only by some appointed nurses, who take care of hundreds and thousands of orc cubs in one moment.
As they grew, surviving the negligence of nurses, not enough food and diseases, the litter of Orcs -as they are called- move to the next levels, where they are raised by new nurses, along with all the children of similar age, until they are strong enough to begin working:
At age of 3 years and half (roughly equivalent to 5 human biological years) the orc children enter into the labor force from Tok-Thoria, to work in an infinity of jobs that don't need excessive force: Opening and closing gates in the mines, looking for pigs and other cattle, as couriers and picking and collecting food, at least until they reach puberty (9 years the female koktos -equivalent to 12 biological years- and 10,5 the males -equivalent to 14).
Once reaching adulthood, the litter pass upon an examination made by government officials from the Nigromancer and foremen, who determine the function of the young orcs: soldiers (only the males), farmers, miners, builders, artisans, between others.
Then, the divided litters are spread among the "pit" , "nest" or "hive", how is called a Fortress-orc-city from the Nigromancer, according to their gender and occupation to barracks:
The Koktos, by the decision of the Nigromancer, don't have private property, except for their own clothes and what they can do themselves:
The Nigromancer is the only owner in the pits, and all the orcs, his slaves:
The houses are common, the lands; common. The weapons and tools: common: Everything is from the Nigromancer, and basically, from the community.
The young orcs work for about 2 years in their designated professions, until is made a new repartition, and they get a new work: in this way, supposedly, they get to know all the jobs, but this isn't complete:
In alternating ways or a change in worker designation, the orcs rotate in their jobs, but the ones who have distinguished themselves in a work, or have begun a more "specialized profession", as an officer, forge master, blacksmith, etc., can stay in the said profession: so they are very wanted position, descending into sometimes a fierce competition.
The orcs, already adults can have sexual relations, and is encouraged to have as many sons and daughters as possible... but there is no marriage or anything:
there is no possibility of life as a couple, as there are only community barracks and housing, and as soon as the children are born, due to their education and conditioning, the mothers give their children to the Nigromancer officials and nurses to raise them, beginning again the circle: everything is from the nigromancer, so is not questioned.
After a life of working, the black orcs age quickly and die at an age of 30 or 23 the bulk of them, due to diseases, malnutrition and bad standards of living, and they work until they are dead, but moved to lighter duties, and after death, the individual's flesh becomes part of the diet of the survivors.
The black orcs divide their work and roles by gender:
Warriors, sailors, fishers, miners, builders and hunters are only male, meanwhile the females are nurses, cooks, weavers, witches exclusively, meanwhile other jobs can be done by both genders, but in general productive activities are seen as feminine ones.
Also, the breeding process continues: And the stronger and better females and males are picked to procreate the next litters of officers and professionals, having special quarters: the male "stallions" continue their job and life, but had extra rations and access to the special quarters, where the female orc "concubines" are: better fed, nursing only the "superior litters", and dedicated to music, art and other jobs banned for the bulk of the orcs.
Government and religion, as well, was only in hands of demons and officials from the Nigromancer...
The Koktos as well are negated to have a personality, or family, as they don't have anything in their own as well, and most of them not even a job. Offensive nicknames normally work, in the end, as names.
Not knowing family bonds, incest happen, quite frequently, and nobody knows (until it appears in genetic problems of future generations of orcs), and only possessing as own clothes, in campaigns it is normal to raid and plunder with fervor.
This society generated discontent, especially among the ones who didn't get to have any position.
But the criticism to the system only began when arrived green orc mercenaries, with other societies, and after that, it became more or less a common problem the desertion of orcs from the Community of Orcs under the Nigromancer, to create their own hordes:
However, many times, these "free hordes" limited themselves to replicate the last society, but placing themselves, the leaders of the deserters, as the "superior orcs".
