Korryn Shiks Matriarchy's flag

The Korryn Shiks Matriarchy is a dual planetary nation in New Zur Star System (System 139) of the Devart Sector of space, in the Nebulosa of Ots science fiction era setting. Actually its effective political status is still questioned, since they are formally a consortium controlled by Kasparov Cia and dedicated to planetary aiersforming and industrial spacecraft manufacturing, under the fictional name of Korryn Settlement Multipurpose Industries. They were formally founded as a sub-corporation charged to take the control of two quarantined planets in the star System 139 and after the end of the Devart War they gained an important contract with Kasparov Cia, allowing them to recover, demolish or refit a lot of wreckages left by space battles wandering in the interstellar space. Using the resulting recovered materials and tech components KSMI was also authorized by Kasparov Cia in starting an effective colonization on the mentioned planets, Korryn I (just known as "Korryn" or "Tropical Korryn") and Korryn II (also known as "Winter Korryn").

Behind this appearantly subordinate role as a sub-corporation, KSM is infact a kind of hidden nation, ruled by artificial humans, most of them veterans from both the Devart War and the Rebellion of the Clones.ì (See the "origins" section). Kasparov Cia granted KSM the control of two planets in the Star System 139 without really facing hard oppositions from the previously existing nations in the system (Kaniykia, Larqvia and New Zur), as the name of Kasparov Cia worked as a nice deterrent.

Note: The Korryn setting has been written by Riveda1972, with a nice help and suggestions mostly from Shabazik, Larqven and Lygen1000. You can read the very first drafts here (first ideas) and here (a better development, which is the base for this document). The planets[]

Korryn I (Tropical Korryn)[]

Fictional image of Korryn I (see )

Korryn I, also known as Tropical Korryn, or just Korryn as synonym of the whole "nation" is a nice, warm tropical type world, with a comfortable 0.95g gravity (i.e. a bit lighter gravity acceleration on ground than on a typical aiers-like world) and a pleasant tropical climate, both elements ideal for relax, holidays and sports.

It was pretty strange that such of interesting planet was left without settlements before, and the reason was in the quarantine set by Kasparov Cia, a quarantine status that ended only after the Devart War. The reasons for the quarantine, and the prohibition to colonize it, were in the scientific needs to study some native lifeforms, but conspiracy theorists diffused a lot of rumors that Kasparov Cia used the planet to secretly test biological weapons and to make experiments breeding humans with alien spaces. After the colonization, a massive information campaign was issued by both Kasparov Cia and KSMI to discredit those rumors, as they could have damaged the touristic attractive of the new colony, which put all their hopes in improving the touristic industries as an easy source of profits. Actually a lot of really pre-existing lifeforms were shown to the public opinion (some species of fishes and invertebrates and some little flying reptilian-type animals, other that several locally evolved plant-lifeforms and algae). This didn't suppress all the rumors, but it largely contributed in giving a kind of exotic aura to the planet, improving its attractive. Nowadays the native lifeforms are securely guarded inside natural reserves on mainlands, while the aquatic ones are mostly free in the oceans but someway menaced by the imported aquatic lifeforms added after the colonization.

The almost perfectly circular orbit of the planet, almost flat on the ecliptic plane, gives Korryn I a pretty stable and comfortable climate, with minimum thermal excursion between seasons, although the occasional typhoons can be really impressive, often triggering 300 Km/h (~190 mph) windstorms and raising ocean waves that easily grow up to 5 mt (~16 ft) when they hit the coastlines. Every house, residence, building, roads, public transports and facilities on the planet are built to resist these recurrent storms, that occasionally interrupt the pacific and comfortable climate.

Actually most of the non hydroponic farming plants are set in the few continental regions not affected by these storms and they're dedicated mostly to specific and sophisticated cultures (requested by wealthy tourists and for extra-planetary export purposes), while hydroponic plants in the undergrounds are in general preferred to provide food for the resident population.

Korryn I is also seen as the "capitol planet" of the corporation holding the rights to colonize both the planets. Actually the Korryn Settlement Multipurpose Industries consortium has its seat here. Here on Korryn I are also set the meetings of the Administrative Council, and the KSMI's CEO has his personal residence here, probably the most elegant and impressive private residence of the planet. Actually, as most informed Kasparov Cia's chairmen know, the Administrative Council is likely an empty shell, as the real effective decisions are taken by the Directive Council (informally known as the Directorate) which operates on Korryn II, where the most important of industrial and military activities are set.

Korryn I has grown in a few years as an interesting touristic and vacation target. Also, the availability of huge free terrains gave a great expansion to the real-estate market, attracting a lot of wealthy people who desired to buy a residence on a trendy and not overpopulated planet. Also the local laws granted duty free activities which sprout the tourism, together with the legalized gambling which contributed in creating a kind of "Casablanca atmosphere".

Actually tourism, gambling, real-estate market (both for rent and sale) and entertainment industries make almost 85% ot the overall incomes of the planet, while local manufacturing industries and farming ones are structured intentionally to serve mostly in support of the local population (both the residential and the touristic one), more than for export purposes.

The kind of people more easily attracted on Korryn I, both for vacation, business meetings on a neutral terrain and for setting a stable residency, are ideal for espionage activities and collecting informations. The local Shiks apparently work mostly in civilian roles, but if they are "citizens" of the KSM they're authorized to live on Korryn I only after having been specifically trained as spies. Most of them don't actually do a lot as spies, and just live their lives on a pretty comfortable world, doing their job (except for the periodical recalls to arms) with no missions assigned, but many of them have the chance to collect a lot of confidential information that are thus provided to KSM security services.

Korryn II (Winter Korryn)[]

Fictional image of Korryn II (see )

Korryn II, also known as "Winter Korryn" is a cold, glacial world, with a tough 1.2g gravity. Astronomers are still wondering about its cold climate, because the general setting of the solar system, which hosts even 17 habitable planets, doesn't seem to justify its status.

Currently astronomers are near to be persuaded that the planet suffered a kind of long glaciation triggered by the activity of some oceanic cyanobacteria lifeforms avid of carbon dioxide. It seems that they first triggered a quick global warming, being the methane a strong greenhouse gas, then the planetary climate inverted, as most of the methane was trapped in the deeps of the seas and the carbon dioxide percentage in the atmosphere felt down and generated a massive glaciation that caused the extinction of thousands of native lifeforms.

This seems to be confirmed by the huge icy deposits of methane-hydrates on the depths of the seas and along the continental shelves, recently discovered by scientific submarine expeditions. Those deposit are actually taken into account for further mining activities.

Also Korryn II was affected by the quarantine status declared by Kasparov Cia before the colonization, but in this case no extended information or justifications were provided, but the needs to keep their mining activities in security during both the Rebellion of Clones and then during the DevArt War.

The continental masses cover about 40% of the overall surfaces, while water covers the remaining 60%, but this is just theory, as glacial platforms cover themselves about 70% of the seas and 90% of the lands, leaving just a thin uncovered belt near the equatorial area. The average temperature on the surface is -20°C (-4°F) but -70°C (~ -95°F) temperatures are very common, specially during the winter nights and at higher latitudes. With the only exception of the equatorial area, additive personal protections are strictly needed in order to survive a night on the surface. It's told that "a nice hot night on the surface" is the preferred form of disciplinary punishment for prisoners in the forced labor camps - and "reeducation camps" too - set on the planet, as normal ZTP suits barely provide the needed heat to survive.

Although an aiers-formation would be actually possible using the current technologies and industrial resources, it seems that has been an intentional decision to not improving the planet's climate, taken by the leading group of the Matriarchy, as they think the hard conditions of the planet are ideal to keep the population strong, responsive and resistant. Which is for sure a wanted goal for a hardly militarized society like the one set on Korryn.

With the only exception of the equatorial area, most of settlements are built in the undergrounds, where the inner heat of the planet provides both easier life support and geothermal energy sources. Any of the strategical plants and buildings, however, are built under the surface regardless the climate also for security reasons. It seems that the bombings during the Devart War also largely contributed to this decision.

Korryn II hosts most of the strategic industries, military installations, research laboratories and above all it hosts the real government of the KSM, the Directorate. All the population living on Korryn II (at least the free one, not considering the prisoners and the "imported" population currently subject to reeducation) is strictly involved in the militarized hierarchy of KSM society, and foreign visitors are not only discouraged, but they're actually subject to restrictive measures and their access to strategic settlements (in particular energy plants, cloning factories, research laboratories and captivity camps) is strictly limited, if not prohibited at all.

The most relevant activities on the planet are related to heavy industries, mining, weapons production, cloning, military training and genetic engineering researches. Also a relevant activity is connected to the Administrative Service, which supervise both the educational system and the re-educational one.

Natural satellites[]

Korryn I has two very tiny natural satellites, too small to generate appreciable tides on Korryn I's surface. One of them is even too small to be seen without a telescope, while the other is seen like a charming small and bright object quickly travelling in the nocturnal skies of Korryn I and is commonly called "The gemstone".

Korryn II has a natural satellite too, still too small to generate sensible tides on the planet but it hosts a small military base with fuel and ammunition deposits.

Orbital structures[]

Both Korryn I and Korryn II have military orbital stations, even if Korryn II has the most effective ones, due to the presence of also industrial space stations and space docks where KSMI works on the most important of their idustrial activities: spaceships demolition, refitting and building, as a result of the first deals and contracts with Kasparov Cia at the end of the Devart War. Two intermediate stations, finally, at a mid-way between the planets orbits, grant easier communications and transports between them, providing communication bridges and refuel or tech support for the ships traveling between Korryn I and Korryn II.

The dark orphan planet (outside System 139)[]

Orphan planet.jpg

KSM had, at the beginnings, a base set on a strange, dark and icy rock-ball wandering in the interstellar space, far from the Star System 139. This kind of astronomical objects are called "orphan planets", i.e. planets which orbit has been altered by the attraction of some near star and torn away from their original star system.

KSM used it as a secret base during the Rebellion of the Clones, and also after that, during the Devart War. They kept a huge old colony ship hidden there, together with the forces and ships they recruited, built or conquered during the confused phases of the Rebellion. Neither Kasparov Cia's intelligence was completely informed about the amount of technologies, facilities and resources stored there by the original leading group of the KSM. After the Devart War, and thanks to the previous deals with Kasparov Cia, KSM started demolishing the ships that they were supposed to NOT have, and reused those materials to speed up the recently authorized settlements on both Korryn I and II.

Nowadays only a remote observation point is still active on the planet, hardly automated, kept in suspended status to preserve the energy reserves, and it's only used in case of emergency as a refuel & repair facility by ships that were in really serious troubles.

Origins of KSM[]

A legacy of the Rebellion of Clones wars[]

Real origins of the KSM initial group date back to the chaotic period known as the Clones Wars or Rebellion of the Clones, but there are no sure information about this group. Considering the female supremacy oriented policies and the composition of the leading group it's almost sure that the initial group came mostly from colonies where Shiks and artificial human females in general were used as sex toys, other that as working forces. The stubborn, merciless way KSM often engages sabotage missions concerning any activity of the Achastia colonies seem to confirm this. This initial "imprinting" conditioned also the further evolution, when across the rebellions the group consolidated by recruiting other artificial humans.

We just know that at a certain phase of the rebellion wars they had managed in putting hands on a respectable fleet of small-to-medium sized military ships and they used them to severely harass their enemies. Their favorite tactics seemed to be inspired by asymmetric warfare and guerrilla tactics more than by open battle ones.

During the most chaotic phases they even managed to put hands on an old, wandering colony ship, hiding it under the coverage of an Orphan Planet they used as a base where to hide their captured ships, and from where they launched their corsair attacks to weaken the mega-corporations' forces.

Anyway, we all know the causes why the rebellions in general were defeated, with few exceptions. The KSM group saw and understood that it was just a matter of time and they would have been defeated or exterminated too, if they had continued the fight. Fortunately at that times, mega-corporations started being very concerned about the possibility of an intervention from the Bazikstan federation in the conflict, with the excuse to bring back the "natural order" and to sweep away the corporations themselves, which could have easily been considered responsible for the clones creation and so for the rebellions too.

KSM took the chance to end the war without being erased or incorporated back to their original subordinate roles: they had military forces strong enough to cause some troubles. Not enough to win, not enough to survive a coordinate and decided reaction from the mega-corporations, but still strong enough to persuade some of them that a negotiate was more convenient than a bloody victory, while a potential worse enemy (RFB) was still at the door, probably planning an intervention that would have been more and more dangerous than any of the failed rebellions issued by the clones.

Due to these special conditions, KSM and Kasparov Cia set a secret deal, calling a truce based upon the fiction to incorporate the rebel group under the cover of a subordinate company. The details of the initial deals are now unavailable but for sure they should have been convenient for both the involved parts.

Both KSM and Kasparov Cia didn't trust a lot their counterparts, but the rebellions were still going on and the menace of a RFB invasion was still concerning the main corporations and nations of the galaxy. As a result, no serious and definitive investigation was acted on the Orphan Planet, but Kasparov Cia gladly accepted to take back some heavy cruisers, a dozen of Korsar Class Fast Attack Cruisers and even a pocket carrier, as a symbolic act of surrender, and just left KSM free to recover from their damages and wounds in exchange of the promise to no give further support to rebel forces, while Kasparov and the other corporations hurried up to definitively solve the rebellions in order to front the risk of an invasion from RFB.

Since KSM kept faith to the deal and they were no more involved in supporting the rebellions, at the end of the war Kasparov Cia came back to negotiate and formalized KSM for the first time as a mercenary company, writing down a bunch of deals and a kind of alliance in case of an invasion from RFB. In exchange KSM was allowed to collect some of the defeated rebels and to incorporate them to keep them under control. They also were granted to receive regular food supply.

Probably it was during those days that Kasparov Cia thought for the first time to charge KSM for the effective occupation and colonization of some planets along the "southern" border space near both the RFB and the alien space. Maybe KSM seemed a good buffer state to improve the control on the RFB borders without employing their own forces directly.

In the meantime, while recovering from the wounds and the losses of the rebellion, KSM started working on the colony ship and the exceptional value represented by the thousands of Accelerated Maturation Cloning Chambers stored aboard the captured colony ship. That was not so interesting as an Ark ship would have been, but it was a real treasure for a group planning to expand their forces having finally a planet in their hands.

Peace between two storms[]

During the few years between the Rebellion of Clones and the Devart War, controversial news came from the few Shik Republics founded after the rebellion. The KSM leading group was concerned by those news, that quickly forced them putting aside the temptation to join one of these recently born nations.

They in fact didn't give up the ideas at the origins of the rebellion: they just had decided to wait for a better chance, but what was happening in the few independent nations controlled by artificial humans persuaded them to search for an alternative way.

They realized it was a severe mistake to repeat the caste based system, with just Dreselandeses in vice of biological humans, put at the very top of the new hierarchy, because this was one - if not the main - of the reason why so many artificial humans hadn't join the rebellions, or even fought against rebels. Maybe it was due to the fact that KSM's leading group wasn't composed by dreselandeses only, but by Regults and Jakos too. Anyway this was one of the very rare, few cases where Dreselandeses accepted (not gladly but they finally did) to share the decision power with lower ranked and (considered by them) inferior families of clones.

Once they put aside the idea of a Dreselandeses-lead society, they concentrated their efforts in reducing the gap between Dreselandeses, Regults and Jakos. What about Albertonians? Well they hadn't anymore a lot of them, as their actions during the rebellion were not focused on open battles, so they hadn't a lot of chances to recruit Albertonians, not to mention the fact that the hard conditioning of Albertonian was more difficult to bypass, and their general lack of initiative made them not so interesting as leaders of a long terms campaign.

However they put all their efforts in studying and researching both in bio-engineering field and in mental conditioning field. They already got a deep knowledge of how mind conditioning programs worked during the clones' maturation: as KSM too had its own bunch of Dreselandeses who first hacked several AMCCs in the intermediate phases of the rebellion. This experience was very useful to them for the experiments needed to give the new massively produced Jakos some more decision skills, more initiative and more merciless attitudes, together a pre-loaded bunch of tactics and strategic notions that ordinary civilian Jako would have never had. At the same time they spent a lot of efforts in the try to improve the Regults' abilities and genetic benefits. The general idea was to get a new generation of clones, including both the extraordinary endurance of Jakos and the relative genetic diversification of the Regults, giving them more initiative, creativity, problem solving abilities and more merciless attitudes. The plan was not to give them even the hard and advanced Dreselandes-level genetic improvement (too many Dreselandes fiercely disagreed, resistend and opposed this idea, worried to loose their supremacy) but for sure their intention was to significantly reduce the gap.

The next step appeared then to be "how to break an existing conditioning in already living shiks", in order to re-educate recruited, "freed" or just kidnapped clones.

At the same time they worked hardly trying to isolate the wanted genetic traits that provided Jakos their excellent endurance to hostile environments, and searching to keep together the need to diversify the genetic stock without loosing the benefits of genetic manipulation, as normally occurred when clones had children in a traditional way or when ordinary Regult lines were created by common biological humans.

These efforts moved them on a very dangerous deadline, as they realized the only way to quickly assure the transmission to prole of the wanted traits, even when naturally breeding, was to manipulate genetics so hardly that they would have become not only "artificial humans", but even something new that would have been no more human at all, although looking as human.

Furthermore they were severely concerned about many negative results of their experiments. They called it "The Standovin Paradox", in the name of the Dreselandes scientist Victoria Standovin, who first theorized the risk to get more unwanted genetic mutations and malformations, the more they tried to breed advanced genetically engineered individuals in the hope to preserve and transmit their genetic benefits to their prole.

There was no definitive confirm of this theory, but empirical results were frequent enough to severely worry the researchers. At last, consolidating a new genetic trait, normally took hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of years of natural evolution, while they were trying to get the same results in a few years. It seemed to them quite possible that they had reached a limit they couldn't (yet) pass.

The other efforts they spent a lot of energies and resources on, were the first colonization attempts on Korryn II. After two years of useless negotiations and proposals, Kasparov Cia finally accepted to involve KSM in the task to enforce the control on System 139, still considered (for valid reasons) of a strategic relevance. The very first contract after the "foundation" of KSM as a mercenary company, was the formal act of constitution of the Korryn Settlements Multipurpose Industries.

It's said that the name "Korryn" was just the result of a randomly computer generated name, as until that moment the two quarantined planets neither had names, but just serial codes to identify them. The act of constitution defined the new company as a subcompany held by Kasparov Cia itself (even if they had an agreement about the effective control that Kasparov Cia would have acted) and devoted to spacecraft engineering and excavation of planetary underground settlements. This way KSM put their hands on Korryn II for the first time. They were involved both in the fortification of the orbiting stations around Korryn II, and in the building of the very first underground refuges and infrastructures under the Korryn II's surface.

Despite of this encouraging opportunity, KSM grew very worry about Kasparov Cia's interferences. Years were passing, but RFB seemed to not want to invade other territories, so they were more and more concerned about their status. If the RFB menace seemed less urgent, they probably had to face off Kasparov Cia by a weaker position. And probably, very probably, soon or later Kasparov Cia spies would have discovered what KSM was really working on: And that day would have been probably the end for their hopes to get a future revenge for the rebellion.

The DevArt War[]

Maybe it's sad to say that, but the war couldn't have come in a better moment for KSM. Neither the help provided by KSM to Kasparov Cia in the long, confused series of skirmishes against their rivals from Azimuth Pharmaceuticals would have been enough. Worst, the good results achieved by KSM commandos worried Kasparov Cia more than how they satisfied them for the loyalty demonstrated by KSM.

So, when the first strikes hit, and the Goeliathian Coalition started the war, everyone in the KSM had a long sigh of relief, as Kasparov Cia's attentions would have been distracted once again, letting them the time to hide better their intentions, plans, and activities.

After the initial relief, anyway, the aggressiveness shown by the Coalition since the first days of the war, persuaded KSM leaders that they couldn't lower the guard. Instead, they decided to evacuate the space stations, still under construction. The civilian personnel, mostly engineers and industry workers, went to the recently excavated underground refuges, while the military retired outside the solar system, toward the still occupied Orphan Planet.

Both Korryn I and II were still not developed enough to really attract the Coalition's attentions: they just had better targets in the same star system, targets like Kanyikia, Larqvia and the Zur Space Dominion. The uncertain position of Zur and the savage bombings on Kanyikia, in particular, attracted most of the attentions, giving KSM the time to retreat in safety and reorganize their forces.

Altough the few settlements on Korryn II were neither considered for massive bombings, no orbital structure was left operative. The under construction stations were severely damaged, if not completely destroyed, and also the earlier surveillance stations of Kasparov Cia, built years before to assure the respect of the quarantine, were wiped out during the first wave of attacks.

KSM played a marginal and often covered role during the war, but they fulfilled the deals with Kasparov Cia, while they could have kept themselves apart, or they could have provided just a nominal support to Kasparov Cia and the other allied. This kind of (cynically decided) loyalty probably contributed a lot in improving the relationships with Kasparov Cia and it would have given its payback immediately after the war.

Due to the lack of heavy weapons and heavy warships, KSM forces decided to fight the war replying the same tactics that made them so dangerous during the rebellion. Ambushes, harassment along the enemy supply lines, sabotage of energy plants and industries behind the enemy sidelines. They never fought hard open battles, they never made bloody pulps of their enemies, but they always left their targets weakened and exsanguinated by a lot of small wounds, making them easier to be defeated by the main corporation forces; even some black ops directed against decision makers of undecided nations gave their results: sometimes killing, kidnapping or menacing the relatives of some decision maker, got the best results in "persuading" them to adopt a more friendly attitude toward the allied forces, and to refuse the proposals from the Coalition.

Also, it was during any of these "behind the lines" operations against enemy supply lines that KSM contributed in discovering the hidden attempts of Azimuth Pharmaceuticals to support the Coalition. And also here KSM forces succeeded in pulling off some good strikes against APharma smugglers. This also was found amazing by Kasparov Cia itself. While the tides of the conflict gradually wiped the coalition's presence off the area, KSM still continued their operations following the allied fleets and taking care to clean out the just conquered planets from any remains of coalition forces and their collaborationist.

During these "clean-sweep operations" they also managed in recruiting (or capturing) both disbanded units, defectors, war orphans and renegades, or just desperate people left without nothing by the war. This kind of cannibalizing policies went on until the end of the war, and even after it, during the pacification and "peacekeeping" missions on recently occupied territories, until the ultimatum from RFB forced the allied forces to leave the sector.

Anyway, KSM forces found another interesting terrain for recruiting, on the glassy ruins of Zur, where a lot of both orphans or desperate people and disbanded military units were wandering with no hope for a better future than becoming raiders and bandits or beggars.

Out of the shadows...[]

The reward for the efforts during the war was collected once the most of allied forces retired in the Devart sector. KSM, or better the Korryn Settlements Multipurpose Industies was formally turned into a consortium and gained its most important contract, being charged to recover the huge amount of relics and wreckages left by the war in the deep space and around the systems involved by the battles.

Millions of tons of rich metals and refittable tech components, were recovered from a myriad of abandoned spaceships, destroyed or severely damaged during the conflict. They were towed within the KSM spacedocks, built for the occasion around the orbit of Korryn II and thanks to relevant investments from Kasparov Cia itself.

Most of the times, wrekages were just dismantled and turned back into reusable materials, but often KSM engineers managed to refit and resell the ships, dividing their relevant profits with Kasparov Cia to repay their investments. At the same time a lot of materials and tech components were recycled to feed the development of the settlements on both Korryn II and Korryn I, which was finally authorized for extensive colonization and elected as both "capitol" planet and formal seat of the KSMI's Administrative Council.

During this period KSM carefully but as quickly as possible succeeded in dismantling the huge colony ship, still hidden on the Orpan Planet, and transferring the treasure represented by thousands of AMCCs inside the underground infrastructures built on Korryn II.

Similarly some remains of the fleet conquered during the rebellion were trasferred to space docks, masked as damaged ships. The peace agreements set at the end of the rebellion prohibited KSM to hold military ships larger than frigates and light cruisers. Probably it was an informal reward for the loyalty demonstrated during the war if Kasparov Cia's decision makers decided to ignore those odd "wreckages" that were in fact empowered fast attack cruisers, a kind of ships that KSM couldn't have had.

In order to encourage the settlements on the tropical planet, several special agreements were signed by Kasparov Cia, CONIN itself and some of the nations involved in the conflict and resulted as winners (like EUS), or relevant because they shared the worry about a possible expansionism from RFB in the sector (Norodor, Nortenz and LCP).

Both Kanyikia and Larqvia were also granted of relevant advantages in commercial exchanges with the new coming colonies, while Zur's interests were so generously "represented" by Kasparov Cia itself, which promised to spend part of the future incomes from the new colonies to support the consolidation of the new government.

Thanks to both its natural characteristics, the under-population and the attractive duty free and tax free (for ten years) regime, Korrin I quickly developed as a touristic world, attracting not only tourists, but also chairmen, managers, politicians, wealthy merchants and businessmen who desired to acquire a nice residence for their holidays and vacations; also many minor companies devoted to tourism, sports and entertainment industry were encouraged to establish a seat on Korryn I, contributing furthermore to its rapid development.

This "golden era" (actually just a few years since the end of the Goelaithian Wars) was characterized by an evident dualism between the public face of Korryn (a respectable sub-company controlled by Kasparov and devoted to both heavy spacecraft industries, touristic settlements and real-estate market) and the secret one, of a hidden nation ruled by artificial humans, built upon a heavily militarized society and a matriarchal form of government, far from the mainstream stages.

Interior conflicts (3448 a.a.H.)[]

Just a few years after the formal constitution of Korryn as a colony, tenses between different factions inside the KSM leading group brought the Matriarchy on the verge of a civil war. The reasons of the interior conflict between two factions, stayed in the contraddictions inside the targets themselves of the KSM leading group.

While they were still recovering from the wounds of the rebellion wars and building their first secret settlements on Korryn II, the initial leading group spent a lot of efforts in hacking the cloning chambers they gained the control of, aboard the captured Colony Ship still hidden on the Orphan Planet far from System 139.

See: Korryn Experimental Shiks

Their short term plans included to raise the decisional abilities and combat training of Jakos someway bypassing their "happy sheep" attitudes. On the middle terms, they also planned to introduce modifications and improvements to the standard Regults' cloning lines, in order to make their endurance and adaptive capacity near to the Jakos' one but keeping their relative genetic diversification. Finally on the long terms they planned to reduce the gap between the Dreselandeses themselves and the rest of the "lower ranked" shiks (this was actually a more controversial matter which caused dramatic consequences later).

Maybe it was not completely and accident that during these first years, several genetists and reasearchers, mostly working in Kasparov CIA's, GENTEK's and Azimuth Pharmaceuticals' laboratories, suddenly disappeared. Some of them, both biological and artifical humans, were successfully persuaded, recruited and secretly "extracted", while others were just kidnapped and "gently" persuaded to cooperate. Cloning corporations never discovered where their scientists ended up, as they addressed the investigations upon their rival competitors, and KSM's agents did their best in order to diffuse fake news and false leads which could attract the corporations' attention upon their close competitors.

It was during this phase of research, experiments and hacking that was discovered the so called Standovin Paradox. This has not been really accepted and acknowledged as a scientific evidence, but there are a lot of indications this theory could be realistic and this discovery radically changed the plans of KSM shiks leaders.

To summarize: the strong improvements on artificial human DNA, giving Dreselandeses their superior physical and mental skills, or giving Jakos their extraordinary endurance to hostile environments, pulls the human DNA's adaptability toward a limit.

Passing that limit makes the resulting "humans" to loose their humanity, becoming some different species and causing the impossibility to breed with other normal humans, regardless of the fact they still could have sex.

Dreselandeses are probabily already near the top limits of a human DNA. Their old plans and desires to reproduce only artificially, in order to keep safe their superiority, or to reproduce "naturally" but only when finding "worth" superior males, seems to activate a kind of "defensive" inner mechanism of the human DNA itself: The more near to top limits is the original DNA of the reproducers, the more is the risk of chaotic mutations to balance the improved capacities with corresponding menomations.

In a few words this would mean the impossibility to transmit, along generations, all the improved genetic traits to the descendants. Worst of all, the more efforts in reproduction looking for superiority, seemed to cause the more risk to have a menomated descendant or descendants with unpredictable and unwanted mutations.

This was a shocking discovery, questioning all long term plans, because the only other solution suggested by the Standovin Theory, was to force the shik's DNA to become something other than human, with unpredictable consequences both under a biological point of view and a sociological point of view. Artificial humans always faced off the issue of not being accepted by common biological humans: what would happen, they wondered, if not only they had produced "improved humans" but they even produced a new specie, a "fork" of the human kind toward a kind of alien race, a new specie which will be "alien" not only to normal humans but also for other billions of normal human clones in the galaxy?

We don't have to forget that this particular group of rebels was aware of the risks in trying to put the dreselandeses on the top of a pyramid and abandoned this kind of strategy.

This was when (3448 a.a.H.) exploded the interior conflict, whithin the KSM leading group, know as the "Silent Coup" and the "Bloody coup" which took both place within a month. There are no records of what exactly happened. Kasparov CIA's intemediators themselves don't know. They just know that the leading Directorate suddenly changed 2/3 of its senior members and elected a new Speaker. But in the meantime of a month, the full Directorate changed again, and again a new Speaker was elected, without any explanation provided.

The Silent Coup: A strong but minoritary group of leading Dreselandeses were not interested in the possible disastrous consequences of abandoning the human kind specie, they were just interested in pursuing their superiority plans. They were a few among the total, but they also were an assertive and noisy minority. By using both persuasion and intimidation the former dreselandeses leading group managed in taking control of the Directorate and imposed a breakthrough in the Matriarchy politics and research plans, aiming to pursue their goals.

What happened behind the scenes, was something like the Night of the Long Knives. The interior conflict between moderate faction (the ones not wanting to pass the red line and become not human) and the extremist faction, degenerated in a first coup, when the extremist faction gained (by persuasion and menaces) enough consensus to dissolve the Directorate and change its members with shiks of their own faction. Then they immediately started revoking officers and replacing them with others, loyal to the extremist faction.

The "moderate faction" was initially taken by surprise and unable to properly react the silent coup, as they were divided in further factions, and without an evident and coordinated leadership; also the minority of Dreselandeses who however didn't approve the new politics were now seen with suspicion by the other groups. But things changed in a few weeks when the aims of the new Directorate to remove "unaffordable" commanders and officers from their roles in the army caused a sudden escalation and several accidents involving the military forces. The worst of these accidents took place under the surface of Korryn II, where the Directorate tried to take control of the cloning facilities and to remove all previous researchers not agreeing the new politics. The local garrison reacted and refused to surrender the plants, and that degenerated in an open fight that caused a lot of losses on both sides and relevant damages to the cloning factories too.

The Bloody Coup: That incident solved all the doubts and the divisions among the moderate faction. Looking at the concrete risk of an umpredictable escalation the moderate (and largely majoritary) faction, also faced off the concrete fear of what could have been happened if any news of the extremists' plans had been divulged outside the KSM. So they quickly reacted with a decise, bloody counterstrike, lead by a Dreselandesa who, ironically, looked like a Jako and a motivated group of both Regults and Jakos. Although she was just a colonel among the others, enroled in the KSM security forces, she quickly succeeded in taking the leadership of the counter-strike, putting together the several factions and even persuading a lot of "neutral" shiks within the army and the security forces to join the uprising.

Fights and battles were hard and bloody and the final result of the conflict was still pending after a few days of confrontations. The breakthrough took place when - thanks to a treason - the rebels managed in penetrating the Directorate building, where the whole Directorate was executed. But things weren't so simple to solve. Many members of the extremist faction were silently executed too the same day, but many others opposed a fierce resistance. The crucial move was decided a few hours after the slaughter of the Directorate, when the rebel leaders occupied the communications center, nearby the directorate quarters, and send a general proclamation announcing that the Directorate leaders had been arrested (no mention of the massacre occurred in the directorate building) and inviting those who were still fighting to lay down the weapons, promising a general forgiving to all of those who would have immediately surrendered. That move confused the still fighting "loyalist" forces, which without rather orders from a leadership that seemed vanished, mostly decided to put down the weapons and join the winning faction.

Fights ceased within a few hours and a brief period of Martial law was declared. During this period the form of government was definitively reformed and got the form it has nowadays, loosing all the remains from the origins.

We have no official counts of three days of inner conflict, as the new Directorate covered it up with a false report of an industrial accident, but it's estimated that the conflict caused at least 2000 deaths and that KSM lost about 60% of its Dreselandeses, most of them executed (during, or immediately after the conflict, regardless of the promise of a general amnesty) because supporting the extremist faction.

Nowadays the new directorate is still questioning how to handle the Standovin Paradox, but it seems they've set their priorities in reducing the gap between the shiks' genetic lines, for now, temporary putting aside their long term plans.

The nation[]

The public face: Korryn Settlements Multipurpose Industries[]

Nowadays the KSMI consortium is a formally acknowledged company, controlled by Kasparov Cia which acts as main holding company. Main managers of the Administrative Council are charged directly by Kasparov Cia chairmen, while the executive organism (meaning that it should apply end execute the decisions taken by the AC) the Directive Council, is formally constituted by directors elected as representative of both workers and lower ranked managers.

See the details of the KSMI consortium

Theoretically the CEO and his Administration Council should decide, and the Directive Council should just apply and execute their decisions. Actually the AC is almost a completely empty shell, which only activity is to put a signature under decisions that are in fact taken by the Directive Council, the real executive power of KSM.

AC's members are carefully chosen by Kasparov Cia's managers, as they know the situation behind the appearances. Normally the CEO and his counselors are chosen among senior managers near to pension, or needing a production reward and a long vacancy; for the length of their mandate (usually 5 years for the CEO and 3 years for other managers), all what they need to do is saying "yes" when the Directive council need a decision to be formalized and to put their signatures on it.

But beyond this fictional power, they're really lucky men (or women), as they'll live on a comfortable tropical planet, full of sources of entertainment of any kind, having wealthy residences where to live, surrounded by friendly and easily disposable (in all meanings) artificial humans of both sexes, specifically assigned as housekeepers, bodyguards, and servants.

Of course Kasparov Cia tolerates this abnormal status quo due to the relevant incomes granted by the two colonies, but they expect that their managers report any abnormal decision taken by the Directive Council before it's "approved" by the administrative one. The only problem with that, is that the Directive Council often just ignores the approval of the CEO and his counselors, when the inner strategic affairs of KSM are strictly involved, and they just bypass the formal approval from the administrative council, so that Kasparov Cia is often not completely aware of the KSM inner affairs.

The status of startup colony grants KSMI 50 standard years of benefits (but only 10 years of totally tax free regime), while they'll gradually retrieve the shareholdings buying them from Kasparov Cia, with the declared target of becoming an independent company within the 50 years deadline. At the end of this period, the act of constitution grants a choice to the colony, which will decide, by popular referendum, if to become an independent nation, if to join any of the associated nations (EUS, LCP and Norodor), or if to renew (for further 20 years) their status as a colony controlled by an associated consortium formed by Kasparov Cia, Kaniykia, Larqvia, EUS, Norodor and LCP.

The hidden face: The Matriarchy[]

The real decision power is acted by the Directive Council, also just known as The Directorate, which is in fact the supreme government of the Matriarchy. KSM and KSMI share almost completely not only the acronym, but also their logos and flags. Same black background surrounding a white circle; a partial red reproduction of the Kasparov Cia's logo is drawn inside the white circle, while a stylized "S" letter occupies the centre of the flag. The only difference is that the Matriarchy flag also includes the female symbol, represented in gray color as a reference to the traditional gray ZTP-008 suit commonly dressed by Kasparov Cia's Shiks. Of course also the letter "S" has different meanings in both the flags. "S" for "Settlements" in the company one, and "S" for "Shiks" in the Matriarchy one.

The Directorate is formally elected as a representative organism for both workers and lower ranked managers, using a very complicated voting procedure. That's a completely fake procedure, never acted, but simulated every 5 years with false reports concerning the results of voting. The Directorate is actually the supreme expression of the KSM militarized (and matriarchal) democracy, and the Speaker of the Directorate is under all points of view the real chief of the state.

While the formal public seat of the KSMI consortium is on Korryn I, the real seat of the government is on the more industrialized and militarized Korryn II, where also the Representative Assembly (the "Parliament" of KSM) has its seat too.

Under a political point of view the Korryn Shiks Matriarchy is a military republic, where only women have full active and passive elective rights (male citizens have active voting rights only for lesser representatives in local administrations and in workers sydicates). The exact form of government was set up after the bloody coup, when the democratic processes were definitively formalized to grant both a general participation regardless of the shiks' status and clone-family (previously most of officer were dreselandeses, with very few exceptions due to some jakos and regults who achieved leading ranks due to their status as veterans of the Clones Uprisings wars and the Devart War), and to grant the military career a strong and pervasive control upon the democratic processes.

Also for women, infact, the voting rights are determined by their military careers. The whole KSM society is heavily militarized, even in traditionally civilian fields like education, science, research, and economic activities, that are effectively under military control.

Many of the female citizens choose to permanently serve in the military forces, in particular among the veterans of the rebellion, but regardless of their occupations, any woman (no matter if biological or artificial) within the range of 15 up to 50 years age is periodically recalled to arms and must serve for 3 months every year, in order to keep efficient, prompt and responsive their fighting abilities and their discipline.

The recurrent recalls to arms also grant the possibility of reaching superior military ranks (and so voting rights) for women not permanently employed in the military forces. The age range (15-50) is not by chance: considering that a just awaken Shik already comes with a preset conditioning and starts her life at age of 18, biological women born from natural breeding need instead to start their military training earlier and possibly during their still growing phase when they are teen-agers and they are still very open to conditioning. Anyway the gap between the preset skills passed by the mental conditioning during the maturation of clones, and the step-by-step learning process typical for biological humans, is often filled by using accelerated learning techniques based on fast subliminal impression.

A minimum rank of senior Sergeant is needed to vote for the lesser representative assemblies, while a minimum rank of senior Lieutenant is required to vote for the Representative Assemly. The passive election right (i.e. the right to be a candidate and being elected) is even more strictly regulated. A minimum rank of senior Lieutenant is required to candidate for the lesser local assemblies, and a minimum rank of Captain is required for the Representative Assembly. Finally a minimum rank of Colonel is required to be elected as member of the Directorate.

As the males cannot gain ranks over Sergeant (and in general they cannot serve permanently in armed forces, but within the civilian police on Korryn I) they're automatically excluded by both voting and being elected for the main Representative Assembly, whilst they however can gain voting rights for the local representative assemblies and have the right to vote and to be elected in workers syndicates.

Males are periodically recalled to arms too, but for 1 month only.

While pursuing the "normal" and publicly acknowledged commercial activities, the Matriarchy has its own plans for the future, first of all keeping safe the Matriarchy itself, then achieving the results that the rebellion of Clones failed to obtain, and finally an (actually very confused and contradictory) dream of supremacy founded on the genetic improvements granted by both cloning and hereditary genetic benefits transmitted to natural prole derivating from natural breeding. Aside the formal and public activities, KSM pursues its objectives with cynical calculations and often with uninhibited initiatives to recruit other artificial humans to their cause, and to gain access to more extended genetic stocks in order to diversify their reproduction lines, only taking into account the need to not gain unwanted overattentions from Kasparov Cia.

Actually a big concern for KSM leading group is to fulfill the retrieve of shareholds from Kasparov Cia even before the 50 years deadline. That's not an easy task considering that shareholds must be bought, and a half of the annual incomes of the colonies is yet reserved to Kasparov Cia as controller holding.

The KSM society[]

Current form of the Matriarchy.jpg

The Matriarchy as we know it nowadays is a heritage of the Bloody Coup (3448 a.a.H.). At its origins the effective inner government wasn't so formalized, as it was a legacy of the early groups that founded the organization: veterans of both the rebellion of Clones, and of the DevArt War, who achieved their leading roles thanks to military actions during the conflicts KSM was involved into.

It was pretty natural that most of the key roles were occupied by Dreselandeses, and only rare marginal cases allowed Jako and Regult shiks to achieve important roles. And while externally the KSM had a well defined fake organization as a commercial and industrial consortium, the inner setting of the leading group was highly undefined, mostly a result of the balance of power of the moment. They already had a generic form of democratic process but it was largely limited by the roles achieved during the previous conflicts and the access to the Directorate was mainly a matter of persuasion and intimidation acted by the most influencing Dreselandeses leaders. After the Bloody Coup, the new provisional directorate largely reformed the Matriarchy and set up the current "constitution". The actual constitution of the Matriarchy was a masterpiece of compromises, meant to grant access to voting power to all shiks, regardless they were Dreselandes, Jako, regults or any other family of artificial humans, but keeping a strong military influence over the state, to not risk anymore uprisings involving the several factions of veterans from the previous wars. The pervasive influence of the military career was also chosen to intentionally maintain an "always prepared for action" attitude among the population, which seemed the only way they could hope to keep their independence (which was not granted anyway, but having an always ready to fight army seemed better than waiting for an invasion from the megacorporations).

The matriarchal society[]

More they also had to keep under control the male population, due to the matriarchal form of government, which was pretty uncommon and, above all, which would have been considered unnatural and perverted by a large majority of the population outside. Also for this reason, having a strong and pervasive professional army seemed as an essential condition to preserve their independence and to preserve the status quo as a Matriarchy.

However it's necessary to say that the matriarchy acts a soft kind of female domination: males are subordinated but not enslaved and not unnecessarily humiliated. Even if marginally, and although they are kept far from any form of higher military training and commanding roles, they're involved in the KSM society. the kind of control KSM's women act on KSM's males is not like a typical "fempower" domination, based on whips and spiked constraints: it's more like a satin leash, while the iron fist in the velvet glove is used only when it's strictly needed and no more.

However any male on Korryn II very quickly learns to not make upset their female counterparts.

The situation is a bit different and the matriarchal structure of the society is less evident on Korryn I due to several reasons. First of all due to the cohabitation with Larqvia's and Kanykia's activities in developing the planet colonization and economic growth as a touristic and residential world. The entertainment and touristic industry require more "elastic" attitudes, although an accurate observer would easily take note of the predominance of female officers in decisional roles. However the fact that most of the KSMI administrative council, and the CEO himself, are almost always male, this feed the rumors that such of predominance is a form of "harem" set up by male managers because they just like to have pretty female managers all around. Someway the KSM leading group is involved in feeding these rumors, as they're useful for now in keeping general attentions far from the real setting of the state.

Also, any KSM's woman, it doesn't matters if artificial or biological, is carefully conditioned and trained to use any mean to keep the KSM's males happy to obey their mistresses, a fact that largely contribute in keeping both the status quo and a general social peace.

The status of biological humans in KSM[]

Most of the biological population lives on Korryn I but not only. The biological humans that are fully considered as KSM citizens are normally second generation humans, born by natural or artificial mates from artificial parents. They have no formal limitation on their rights and can access any role, depending on their gender as well their artificial counterparts, but the severe genetic requirements, skill tests and additional training required to access the elite forces (rangers, military navy and security services) fatally excludes most of them, unless they have been really lucky at the genetic lottery and they had inherited enough of their parents' genetically improved traits. Anyway they're not excluded by any role and according to their military rank and gender they can access any voting rights granted to their artificial counterparts, both active and passive (this means that biological humans can be elected too).

This only concerns the biological humans on Korryn II, who are subject to the KSM pervasive educational (or re-educational) system and can prove not only their genetic abilities and skill but also 8and above all) their "political" affordability and loyalty to the Matriarchy.

Other biological humans (tourists, temporary workers, visitors and any children born and growth outside the KSM educational system) is excluded by the "real" citizenship at all, and just have a civilian status as a human being formally acknowledged as inhabitant of Korryn I and subject to local laws. Usually the only political right they achieve is to vote for the local consultative councils and no way they can access military forces with the only exception of the Civilian Police operating on Korryn I.

Military forces[]

Uniforms' colors in KSM Army

[To be completed. Read here as a temporary reference]

Under the cover of being yet another PMC (private mercenary company) subsidiary to Kasparov CIA, the army represents the real backbone and base of power for the Matriarchy's independence.

Before the Bloody Coup it wasn't so organized, as it was mostly an amalgam of autonomous paramilitary groups collected and joined together during both the rebellion of clones and the DevArt war. After the coup and the set up of the actual form of government, KSM's military forces were reformed too. Actually the military organization was extended also to cover and influence fields of activity that would have been considered as "civilian" in any other circumstances. While KSM's military forces have some explicitly and properly formalized military corps, military ranks have been extended and applied also among strategic civilian activities like industries, energy production, transports, scientific research, administration and judicial system. In these typically civilian fields the military rank not always determines the specialized role, but it always allows any shik to have their rightful place withing the KSM society.

It doesn't matter where a KSM citizen is enlisted, because once a year (3 months for females, 1 month for males) all KSM citizens must be recalled to arms in order to exercise and keep an high training level even in case the citizen works as a civilian.

The main distinctive trait among military corps is the permanent/non-permanent service. The elite forces, all distinguished for being permanent and professional forces, are the Rangers, the Military Navy and the Security Service.

The Reserve Army has both permanent and temporary personnel, as well the Civilian Police of Korryn I and the Inquisition.

The High Command: All the explicitly military forces (reserve, rangers, military navy and security service) are under the unified High Command, which responds to the Directorate. The Civilian Police on Korryn I responds instead to the planetary civilian administration. Actually the Security Service responds to High Command only for the members careers, but missions and orders are directly assigned by the Directorate. Due to the control on the military careers (and consequently on the voting rights of the members) the High Command has a relevant power on the political life and the KSM society and its influence upone the political choices of the Directorate is pretty important. This strange balance of power was set after the Bloody Coup in order to enforce the "civilian" government but keeping a strong military influence on them to prevent any eventual overthrowing of the desired status quo.

Recalls to arms: Non professional soldiers periodically recalled to arms are usually sent to practice in the Reserve Army, while the permanent forces are not usually allowed as training field for recalled personnel (few exceptions are possible anyway), unless the recalled people had a former service within them.

The Civilian Police on Korryn I is the only armed corp where male citizen can serve permanently, while in their periodical recalls to arms males are usually sent to the Reserve Army. male technicians, engineers and scientist can also be temporarily employed aboard the Military Navy's ships, as well the personnel normally employed in the civil fleet.

In case of war, or in case of specific missions ordered by the Directorate, usual rules can be temporarily bypassed.

Reserve Army: it's considered as military academy and normally the only officers permanently serving within it are the instructors and executive commanders with former experiences in open field battle. It's not meant as a first strike force unless in case of war. It's used for patrolling, basic surveillance on the plants and settlements of Korryn II and for heavy training in hostile environments, both for the recalled to arms personnel and for the ones who wishes to join the permanent forces but have to prove, first, their attitudes, skills and endurance. On Korryn II is also charged of keeping public order and of law enforcement roles. They dress olive-green uniforms.

Rangers: they are the backbone of the KSM military forces. It's a permanent corp, meant for permanent and professional service. Considering the low profile in interplanetary and interstellar relations kept by the KSM, the army backbone is not meant, equipped and trained for heavy ground battles, but for highly specialized operations including infiltration, sabotage, elimination of specific targets and ship boarding assaults, so they often operate together with the Military navy and receive an additional training to fight in space and in abnormal gravity conditions. In order to be enlisted, applicants have to pass specific genetic and attitude tests (if they're biological humans or artificial humans not specifically grown and conditioned to fit such of military activities). They dress dark-gray uniforms.

Security Service: they're under the direct command of the Directorate, although the careers and the ranks are still under the unified Military High Command. It's an highly specialized corp meant for both espionage and political surveillance. It's also charged to grant the independence of the KSM from external interventions and any eventual interior aim to overthrow the matriarchy. Members are directly recruited by the commanders after hard selections and due to the hard requirements it's a rare case that biological humans can fit the required levels of skills, genetic abilities and political affordability. When comparing equal ranks, members of the Security Service are (informally but pratically) considered superiors of their counterparts from any other corp, but in order to prevent an excessive influence of the security service, the maximum rank is limited to Colonel, and the corp is structured in separated regiments with no central command but the Directorate itself. They dress full black uniforms.

Military Navy: strictly operating together with the Rangers, the military navy is charged of both the space defense of the planets (so it controls also the military orbital stations around Korryn I and II), boundaries patrolling and foreign missions needing a naval support or troops transportation. Due to the limitations set by the deals with Kasparov Cia, the KSM armed fleet is not allowed to own ships larger than light cruisers and frigates, but Kasparov Cia's intermediators are pretty aware that KSM also owns some heavy armed cruisers (empowered versions of the famous Korsar Class Fast Attack Cruisers). The backbone of the military fleet are anyway the Anubis Class Destroyers, ships concept and realized for supporting long range and beyond-the-lines infiltration assaults. There are currently planes to develop fast deploying pocket carriers, as except for the spacefighters charged of the planetary defense and patrolling the orbits around the space stations, the KSM generally lacks of an effective space fighters fleet. They dress dark-blue uniforms.

Civilian Police (Korryn I only): it's operative on Korryn I only and it works as civilian police, charged of monitoring public order and law enforcement. It's the only armed corp where male citizens can serve permanently and can even achieve relatively high ranks as local district commanders, although province commanders and overseers are always women. Aside the typical functions of any police corp, they also are used for civilian defense in case of natural disasters or emergencies involving the population. They dress white-and-lightgray uniforms.

Inquisition: formally it's not, formally, military corp, but the fact its members are always recruited among former members of the Security Service makes it comparable to a military corp and they are often considered as a useless superstructure. It actually works on cases having military or political security implications, which is the same field of interest for the Security service itself, and as being the judiciary system separated between the inquiring arm (inquisition) and the judging arm (under the Administrative Services), there are plans to suppress this articulation of the state organization. They dress dark-violet uniforms and black gloves and boots, to recall the link to both the Administrative justice (violet) and the Security services (black).

Diplomatic relations with neighbors within the star system[]

As a young nation (and above all being not, formally, a nation) there is a crucial difference between the formal and public relationships and the covered aims to establish, or not, relationships with the other political entities within the Star System #139.

The KSMI (Korryn Settlement Multipurpose Industries co.) As a subordinate consortium controlled by Kasparov Cia the KSMI has direct relationships with Kanykia and Larqvia only, while relations with the New Zur Doman are intermediated directly by Kasparov Cia, due to its pervasive support to Zur's "government" and due to the inability for Zur to maintain its own interests even within their own world.

In order to make more acceptable, after the end of the DevArt war, the assignation of two planets to a brand new organization, while both Larqvia and Kanyikia maybe could have had their own expansionist aims upon the previously unhabitated Korryn I & Korryn II, Kasparov Cia and the leading group of KSM decided to largely involve both the nations in sharing the profits of the colonization and development of Korryn I as a wannabe touristic and wealthy residential world.

The signed deals between Kasparov CIA, Larqvia and Kanyikia grant an interesting percentage of the total annual incomes from tourism, gambling and residential building sellings on Korryn I for the first 50 years of colonization, under a special tax free regime, and also grant them the chance to have their own house building (and selling) industries on the surface of Korryn I, with the only condition to coordinate and arrange the terrains allocation and the immigration flows under the control of a unified organism charged to direct the planet's economic and social development. Within this specific committee Kasparov Cia's interests are directly represented by a KSMI's delegation.

In this context New Zur is only mentioned in the agreements as passive beneficiary of not further specified "benefits" eventually and gently awarded directly by Kasparov Cia without any direct participation on the economic activities on Korryn I.

Korryn II and its heavy industrial activities have been instead excluded by the agreements and by any profits sharing due to the need to preserve the "secret" of KSM as an effectively autonomous political entity.

Aside the formal relationships, the KSM (Korryn Shiks Matriarchy) has obviously its own points of views.

- New Zur Space Domain[]

It is basically seen as a free hunting reserve, with the only limitation of not annoying or damaging momy Kasparov Cia's interests there. KSM's leading group is highly interested in the survived population, and in particular in the remains of formerly trained fighting groups and organizations which (in their plans) could be recruited for better activities and purposes than wandering through the glassy deserts as outlaws or beggars. Also KSM is highly concerned by external interferences, still looking for survivors but for slavery purposes. KSM has been already involved several times in minor fights against slave traders landed on Zur only to plunder survivors and to take them away enslaved. The need to not cause embarrassment with Kasparov Cia and New Zur's government, anyway, force KSM to be very very cautious in this kind of affairs.

- Larqvia[]

KSM actually has no interest in having conflicts with a formal business partner and a neighbour. They are anyway aware that as being the youngest of the nations in the Star System, and above all being seen as just another long-hand of Kasparov Cia, whose behaviour during the recent DevArt was had been "questionable" even toward formerly neutral states and whose habit to "bully" smaller nations, could complicate any try to set friendly relationships. For sure if KSM was aware of the availability of elven blood and non human genetic material on Larqvia, they'd be more and more interested in setting some kind of collaboration, of course in the aim to hadle their problems and plans in improving their cloning facilities. Another potential field of common interest for both the nation could be the need for KSM to empower their space fighter stock which is actually limited to the planetary defense.

- Kanyikia[]

It's valid the same argument with Larqvia. Shared interests in the economic and social development of Korryn I as a touristic world should prevent unwanted conflicts, but also in this case, being seen as a suborninate puppet of Kasparov Cia could complicate all, for the same reasons explained before, and not to mention the unpleasant episode of the Humiliation of Kanykia. After the deals about the status of Korryn I, exchanges have been set around the big business of the Kanycon, which has now a local (on Korryn I) "prequel" event, meant as preparation for the main event on Kanyikia where the KSMI delegation gladly participate.

Relations with other corporations[]

- Kasparov CIA:[]

It's just considered "mommy" Kasparov Cia, both under the public KSMI legal interface as controlled corporation, and the hidden KSM nation. On the public sight relations are obvious: the KSMI is an articulated consortium focused on heavy space industries, colonization and homebuilding, tourism and having its own subsidiary PMC (private mercenary company). The CEO and his administrative council are formally charged by Kasparov CIA and have their seat on Korryn I, and while their effective power is limited they are also the public interface with both Kasparov Cia and third party organizations. On a higher level of diplomacy relations between KSM and Kasparov Cia are kept directly by the KSM Directorate. As a general rule, while KSM aims to keep their independence and freedom of action, they take very very care to not do anything that could harm or even just annoy the interests of Kasparov Cia, in order to not make them reconsider the deals that allowed the KSM existence. Under this point of view KSM forces are always happy to do even a lot of "dirty jobs" for momy Kasparov Cia and often choose to direct their own attentions and frequent covert operations against subjects that are considered as evident opponents to Kassy's interests.

- CONIN:[]

No direct relations. As a subsidiary consortium, all relations with CONIN are kept directly by Kasparov Cia.

- Azimuth Pharmaceuticals:[]

As a subsidiary consortium KSMI has no direct relations with Az Pharma. It's considered, at best, a lethal competitor to the master holding corporation, and that's all. About the KSM, it's been involved several times in covert operations againt Az Pharma, both during the Rebellion of Clones and the DevArt war, and even in the meanwhilst. Any time Kasparov Cia needs or asks for a help for any of the low intensity / marginal conflicts (mostly on external colonies), the KSM is glad to offer their services (and eventually to collect any wreckage, including captured clones, nice drugs and any other tech they can grab and reuse for their plans).

- CON.MI.:[]

A few contracts are active, due to KSMI's contracts concerning wreckage demolition (probably CON.MI. is a collateral client when reselling recovered materials but recovered materials are instead very often used on Korryn II for building purposes or to reinforce the space stations. Recently kSM has been accidentally involved in some kind of smuggling involving a CONMI freighter within a sector of space where they shouldn't have been (see An ordinary rescue mission)

No formal relations as a consortium (KSMI). Gentek is seen as a Kasparov Cia competitor, so in case of need or request by Kasparov Cia, KSM accepts to be involved in any requested action against them. Anyway GENTEK seems to be a special case of study for KSM leaders. They are probably more interested in acquiring knowledge and tech about cloning than in harming their activities, unless explicitly requested by Kasparov Cia.

- Infinity Solutions:[]

No formal relations with KSMI as a consortium. KSM military forces first met Infinity's clones (the pawns) during the clean-off and peace keeping operations at the end of the Devart War, on the former Goeliathian coalition's occupied worlds. KSM leaders were impressed by the ruthless attitudes of Pawns, despite of their evident lack of initiative and tried several times to recruit them as instructors for clones (mostly standard jakos and, in general, too submissive clones to be trained). Most of times they had to kidnap them, anyway.

- Klein Shine: []

No formal relations with KSMI even if it's expected that Klein Shine could be interested in selling domestic clones on Korryn I to support the "touristic" activities, including the entertainment for tourists aiming to have some spicy encounters with submissive female clones. On KSM's point of view, they see Klein Shine's policies as poison in their eyes, even more than other cloning companies; although KSM carefully avoids to directly attack Klein Shine's business, they often choose to direct covert operations in the aim of recovering and freeing sold Delmens after they've been delivered, specially when they are further re-sold on some dirty black market like in case of Achastia colonies. KSM reasearches are also particularly interested in studying the ways Delmens have been conditioned, in order to finde more efficient ways to break the conditioning of existing clones. There is a whole secret camp on Korryn II where "freed" Delmens are concentrated in captivity, studied and experimented for this purpose.

- Pixie Squad:[]

No direct contract or relations as a consortium (KSMI). KSM special forces are anyway looking for contacts with the remains of Pixie's units on Zur, as they consider them as an opportunity to gain experienced fighters to the KSM's cause. Tries to establish contacts with them didn't give results, anyway, for now.

- WK Corp:[]

KSM's leaders, most of which are veterans of the Rebellion of the Clones war and/or former members of the FDAH, have never forgot the WK's actions during the Rebellion and the fact that the most bloody repressions came from them. Almost any manager, decision maker and even simple worker of the corporation can be considered as included in a special Death List of the KSM's Security Service. While KSM is always very careful to not cause open fights, it's granted that ANY time they see the chance to kill any of them without attiring attentions, they just do it, considering it no more than the just execution of a rightful sentence of death. Likely KSM researchers are interested (and concerned) about WK's progresses in the field of robotics.

Relations with other nations[]

Almost lost relations. The files concerning relations with SSICC and the FRD are currently classified, but there are confirmed rumors of previous friendly relations, as many of the SSICC members were also veterans of the Rebellion of Clones wars. Actually the truce with Kasparov Cia first, and the apparently sumissive position of KSM to Kasparov Cia later, radically cooled former friendship. It's surely in the KSM interests and plans to rebuild some kind of collaboration with them, maybe supporting their efforts or exchanging informations and intelligence, but actually the close link between KSM and Kasparov Cia makes it difficult as SSICC / FRD are licitly suspicious about KSM's real intentions.
