Nutks (Nutkian: Nutk) are the citizens or native-born people of the Nutk Confederation and the Nutk Union; or people of descent to the ethnic and ethnolinguistic group associated with the Nutk language. This connection may be ethnic, historical, ancestral, cultural, legal or residential. The term Nutks has historically referred to the Nutk-speaking population of the Dark Legion of Demons during the fantasy age, and later, to the natives of the Stornkold Archipielago. Legally, Nutks are citizens of either the Nutk Confederation and the Nutk Union.
The Nutkian term Nutk originate from the Old High Nutk word Nukka (from Nuk "people"), refering to the Nutkian "language of the people". It is not clear how commonly, if at all, the word was used as an ethnonym in Old High Nutk.
The Nutks where a human nation of the called "demon servers": humans vassals of the demons of the Confederation of Free peoples, and demon worshippers. While the Confederation of Free peoples -or dark legion of demons- was in origin a coalition of the enemies of humankind, human vassals, slaves, allies, mercenaries, pirates and servants where functional to the dark legion.
The Nutks where from eastern Aels, living to the north of the Enkel and south to Kanovait in the plains of Anutkia, between the great forest of Nubla and the sea of Tok, who settled there around the XII century after the apparition of Humanity, being for long an irrelevant people without notoriety: nomadic cattle raisers, hunters and gatherers, with few tecnological development, that lived in the prairies along with silvan and flairie elves, K'Nir, Loranor and Minotaur beastmen.
At firts, the arrival of the Nutk shepperds was peaceful, but soon began the conflicts between the indigenous people and the new inmigrants, and despise they being in technological disadventage, due their numbers and cavalry (of horses and kazaak mount-dragons riders) they defeated the silvan and flairie elves, seizing control of the lands between the forest of Nubla and the sea of Tok, forcing the Silvan elves and Loranor to the forests of Nubla, the K'Nir and minotaur to the north, and the Flairie elves to the south.
After conquering these lands, that so much blood costed to the Nutks, they didn't needed to keep migrating looking for pastures for their cattle, being founded the first semi-permanent and permanent settlements of the Nutks, having learned from other peoples some rudiments of agriculture.
The Nutks lived then in a relatively peace in the prairies of Anutkia -relative, as they allways had the swords very close, to repel the ocassional attemps of the Silvan elves, the raids of the wild K'Nir packs or of Loranor hunters, and more commonly, to fight between the different Nutk clans and tribes.
Around the 1.900 After the Apparition of Humanity, during the Dark Age of Demons, the Dark Legion decided that the Nutks, due their isolation and weak political organization, and due their simple and credulous nature, where to be cohersed into the Dark Legion.
Because of that, it was send a Bazrrod demon lord along a Legion: and thanks to showing their power, demostrating magic, religion, playing the tribal and clan ancestral hate, building alliances, treasons, assassinations, playing a part in conspirations and clan and tribal wars, weakening the different factions that could oppose them, soon most of the Nutks where under demonic influence.
Noticing of this, several clans united against the demons in a open war, but their warriors, very fierce and combative, couldn't against the better organized and equiped forces of the Dark Legion, being their defeat the better demonstration of power of the Demons of the Dark Legion. Finally, all the Nutks clans become demon servers.
The Bazrrod who was sent in that isolated and distant region of Anutkia was simply called by his servants "Anutkahook" -the demon of anutkia, as they used the kanov word to design the demons, as they lacked of one in their own.
This demon satrap, helped by his legions, founded a "capitol", a big village surrounded by three walls of palisades, and organized the realm of Anutkia.
Between the laws of Anutkhook, the Nutks didn't had to pay any tax for their properties or trade, but each Clan leader had to give seven of his sons and daughters to the demons, who take these young Nutks as workers, servants, serfs, cooks and warriors to the distant disolated lands of Polforia, Morod and Hortann for as long the demons decided -normally was around three to five years, but could be as well a while life-.
This terible tax forced the Nutks not only to have the seven sons and daughters the demons demanded, but as well more to keep their farms and defend their clans from the rival ones:
And so, the Nutk families where very numerous, having the main families several wives and many children since young age, which helped a quick population expansion.
In this way, the Nutks fought along the Dark Legion in the First war of the Power (2.203-2.223 a.a.H.), and while the demon lords where defeated and exiled to the interior of Mount Satanmet, the distant Anuktia was forgotten by the Armies of the Whide Axis, and the demon governor, Anutkahook, keeped for himself Anutkia and the Nutks.
For almost 100 years, Anutkahook keep a low profile, fearing that the Whide Axis or the human kingdoms noticed him... but as nothing happened, he began to execute his ambitious plans of expansion to build a new demon empire. HIS demon empire. But for this, he needed more servants and something better than some uncultured Nutks, so he gathered the forces of all the clans and his legions, launching a great campaign to the south, to adquire slaves, loot and knowledge.
This raid was sent at the 2.422 , when the Great Demon Anutkhook send his armies in a great raid against the eastern coasts of Aels,
taking as a loot everything that wasn't nailed to the ground, destroying everything else and herding countless cattle and slaves.
They sacked Enkel at the 2.423 a.a.H, and keep advancing to the south to the Trading City of Zannas (2.424), sacking the near lands: however, the powerful walls and armies serving the Vanolosé merchant lords, make them change their opinion and turn back to their lands to the north: but as Enkel was already sacked and destroyed, they crossed the mountains of Nohalion, raided Purpurian -until chased away by the Purpurian army- and sacked Provenz (2.426) after returning to Anutkia at the 2.427, after fice years.
90.000 warriors left for the raid, and only 60.000 returned, but with countless riches, over 740.000 slaves and much knowledge the Nutks ignored before.
With this mass of slaves, Anutkahook partitioned them between their slaves to keep them happy and close to his cause, keeping a great part for himself -mostly the artistans, alchemists, officers, magicians, architects, enginers, mathematicians, philosophers...- with them, he builded his dark fortress of Anutkian, near his old capitol and the ocean.
Anutkahook fomented then the trade and exploration, building the Nutks their first ships -a people who before didn't had any naval tradition- soon reaching lands of the Vanolosé, K'Hiff archipielago, Enkel, Tok-Thoria and Kanovait.
They opened as well land routes, as before to reach the western kingdoms they had to go around the giant forests of Nubla and Bierteno, so they rebuilded the ancient Road of the Forests -intransitable for hundreds of years-, making it larger and making trading posts, getting in that way a good trade route.
When the demons returned for the Dark legion of Demons in the Second Comming of Darkness, while Anutkahook (like the Nigromante of Tok-Thoria) ignored the call of the Witch King of Dol'Nur for help, they quickly presented themselves as loyal servants of the Dark legion for the Second War of the Power.
During this war, Anutkia faced the rising Loranor Kingdom and their allies, fighting the campaign of the forests, and after the first phase of the war and with the war being fought in more distant borders, was founded a city in the Island of Kuekker, to proyect the power of Anutkia to the sea of Tok and Hieyoks.
Early Modern PeriodEdit
The Cataclysm will be a great shock for the Nutks, not only for the destruction caused by itself, but due the disappereance of the demons, for long their masters. In the new changed geographical context provided by the Cataclysm, the Nutks lost much of their territorial identity, becoming a land of passage between the new mass of Aelsieyoks: the continental Nutks will quickly be assimilated by their new human neighbours, mostly of Krakavian ethnicities, becoming minorities in what once where they homelands in a process that will culminate at the 2922, with the conquest of the last independent Nutk lands in continental Aels.
However, the Nutk culture will survive mostly in Vigaria -what will be called the later called the Archipelago of Stornkold: once a marginal, border territory in the continent of Hieyoks, by the shores of Hieyokscream, where Nutks mixed with the closely related Sukkes, with the Cataclysm the archipelago will come to be isolated, emerging a progressive Nutk-Sukke union.
Cut off from mainland Hieyoks and Aels, and as well from the main invasions and migrations that followed the cataclysm, the archipelago will be ruled by the Nutk clans, who slowly impossed themselves over the Hieyoks Ice Giants, snow and ice elves and Hieyoksmainer in an era still remembered as an heroic age, with only intermitent incursions of continental powers into the Archipelago.
Sueccian exploration and colonization of StornkoldEdit
By the 2957 a.a.H, after about three centuries of issolation, an explorer under the service of the Sueccian Empire, Eric Vad Stornkold will explore the archipelago -which will be named after him-, beginning the colonization of the islands of Vigaria and Norlag the following year.
While the Nutks resisted and the hinterland -specially in the valley of Snobbord- remained in Nutk clan lands, outlanders will settle down in the now-called Stornkold archipelago shores, and to the west and east. Suffering several defeats against the Sueccian, -the called Nutk rebellions, often more related to banditry rather than an organized armed resistence-, slowly the Nutk chieftains will accept as their distant sovereign ruler, the King of Sueccia.
By the 3179 a.a.H, after 220 years of colonial -but light- rule, the settlers of Stornkold will try to claim their independence from Sueccia: the Nutks, often at odds with the settlers, they prefeered a distant foreign ruler than a closer one, and with provinces of more autonomy, they will side with the Sueccian and the loyalists during the Independence War, and while they where unnable to defeat the indepentists, falling most of the Nutk population of the islands under the influence of Felcheland and Münzen, the Nutks of Snobbord and central Stornkold will be able to retain the independence of the clan territories until the decade of the 3230's:
Then, due the discovery of important and rich metal deposists, will began a gold fewer in Snobbord, with a massive influx of gold diggers, adventurers and miners, interesting as well the Münzen and Felchelanders in the valley of Snobbord, which will lead to the Münzen-Felcheland War.
Creation of the Nutk state of AnuchiaEdit
As a result of the war and the Treaty of Unterknieva, was created and recogniced a Nutk state: the Nutske Føderal Republik, the Federal Republic of Anuchia: first modern Nutk state, was meant to be a Buffer zone between Felcheland and Münzen, but the first president of Anuchia, Tomaticoa Anuch will seize the oportunity of a civil war in Felcheland to topple the government of Mariado Felcher and, supported by the large Nutk minority, to annex Felcheland into Anuchia at a simulation of a referendum at the 3237.
Anuchia will have as a goal the creation of a National Nutk State, which will lead to clashes with their Stornkoldian neighbours, and as well vague claims around Hieyoks and Aels.
Anuchia will be part of a late colonialism and imperialism as part of the UVA, coming to be an active nation and often a world power of Aiers.
Reaching the Space: In the Nebulosa of OtsEdit
The Nutk ethnicity is linked to the Nutkian tribes of antiquity in north-eastern Aels.
While a human group, due their past as demon servers, Nutks didn't had tabu against the mixing with non-humans, and largelly being a Nutk was something cultural, rather than racial: because of this, they had many non-human ancestors.

The roles of the clans Edit
Traditional Nutk society was ruled by the clans, and while after the Sueccian invasion of Stornkold Archipelago they will lost for long their political power, they gained again important political ascendancy in the EAN.
While not all the Nutks were members of clans -always existing in the traditional countryside a clan-less, errant and marginalized free, temporary workers- they where seen as a key cultural aspect of Nutk identity. With the demonic rule, the Blood Tax and the foundation of demonic cities, there would expand a clan-less urban Nutk society, which was deemed by the demons as more loyal to their political goals than the clans that controlled the hinterlands of Anutkia: however often the clans became part of the administrative system of the demons, which made them more useful to demonic policies, but granted them with increasingly more political power in the local administration of Anutkia, and so after the fall of the demons with the Third War of the Power and the destruction of the main Anutkian cities, clans would gain again political supremacy among the Nutks
These clans where groups of people united by actual or perceived kinship and descent, and even if the lineage details were often unknown, clan members organized themselves around a founding member or apical ancestor.
The kinship-based bonds may be symbolic, whereby the clan shares a "stipulated" common ancestor that is a symbol of the clan's unity. Traditionally members of the nutk clas identified themselves by the Nroar, traditional clan tattoos and markings, along with other symbols.
Traditional Nutk Family structure Edit
As a result of the Blood Tax imposed by demons to the Nutks, in which Anutkahook demanded seven children from each family, will result in a demographic pressure for large families, to be able to fill the quotas of the Blood Tax and still have workforce to work in the clan and familiar farms.
In the patriarchal Nutk society, this will lead to the extension of poligamy, and as well of legalized concubinate, to provide enough sons to the demons and the clan. This as well would shape Nutkian slavery.
The head of a traditional Nutk clan was an Abhul or patriarch, which held absolute power over the clan, all the people and their property was subjected to his will. He had power over the life and death of the clan members, could emmancipate slaves and arrange marriages and unions, being able as well to sell into slavery his peoples up to his will.
Main and secondary wives, concubines Edit
The Abhul patriarch could have several wives -Khalit- and concubines -Sithur-, which had different roles.
The Khalit or wive -sometimes interpreteed as main wife instead, as a Sithur in it's own was above the role of a mere concubine- were the women of the house: while an Abhul could have several Khalit wives, he had to provide to each of them a house in their own, where they ruled the house and household. Only the descendence of Khalit -Khal- could be heirs, and the firstborn son of the first Khalit wive was to be the next patriarch of the clan, while the firstborn sons of the other Khalit would be the patriarchs of new branches of the clan, subjected by blood lines to the first patriarch, but as well with extense patriarchal powers over their own. The younger siblings of mother and father would be under the rule of their elder brother as he became an Abhul.
These new clan branches would have the name of the clan and of the Khalit.
Only the daughters of a Khalit could be in their own, Kalit of other patriarchs.
In principle, the children of the Khalit wouldn't be eligible to become part of the Blood Tax -unless there weren't alternatives to fill the quotas.-
The Sithur or concubine -or sometimes instead called secondary wive- were often former slaves or daughters of other sithur, which had a formal, stable union with the patriarch. Unlike the Khalits, who each enjoyed their own house, the Sithur instead often lived in common spaces reserved to them. What told appart a Sithur of a lower concubine, was that concubines only had a temporal union, meanwhile there was a ceremony of union between the husband and the Sithur
The children of the Sithur -Sithuure- couldn't be heirs of the clan, and unless they were selected by the Blood Tax or were liberated by the Abhul, couldn't abandone the clan.
The son of a Khalit, a Khal -main son- could have in his own as many Khalit and Sithur he wanted, but the son of a Sithur, a Sithuure -second son- could only have a single wife that had as well the status of a Sithur, so neither he or his descendance could inherit the rank of Khal.
The daughters of the Khalit and Sithur had the same denominations of Khal and Sithuure respectively, but in the patriarchal Nutk society they didn't had the same rights as their brothers. A Khal nutk woman couldn't have several husbands, and she could be married as a Khalit -but as well, as a Sithur, depending of the patriarch-, while the Sithuure nutk woman could be only a Sithur, either married to a Sithuure of her same rank, or to a Khal or patriarch.
Aside of the main and secondary wives -Khalit and Sithur-, often Nutks took concubines, without any kind of ceremony, often from foreign slaves and clan-less nutk servants: the children of these unions could be adopted into the clan as Sithuure by decission of the patriarch.
Age division Edit
Aside of this division of the children of the clan according to the rank of their mothers -of Khal, sons of Khalit, and Sithuure, sons of Sithur-, within the clans there was a rank according to age difference.
The Adfuchs where the children and teens, who hadn't done the Nroar -the adulthood tests to be accepted into the clan as adults-, and as such they weren't fully clanmembers. Adults who hadn't aprovved the Nroar remained in this category, which was only above slaves and foreigners, but they hadn't the rights of clanmembers.
Around the 15 years old, the Adfuchs realized the Nroar tests, and once they had achieved them they where considered to be adults and members of the clan: the young men and women of the clan became Nroarer. Already adults and members of the clan, they still didn't had all the rights of adults, as these young adults couldn't leave the clan or form families on their own unless expressly approved by the patriarch, having to serve the clan: this was because normally the Nroarer were the ones to be called to serve the demons in the Blood Tax.
Around 20-25 years old -this depended on different clans and changed upon time- the young adults who had served the clan -or their demon masters- where accepted by the patriarch as Frennas, adult members of the clan with the right to form families -and in the case of the Khal, son of Abhul, to form new branches of the clan- and in the clan assembly to have a voice.
Over the 50 years old, the older Frennas would become Abhass -wise elders- who in the clan assemblies had aside of voice, right to council -being part of the elder council of the clan-, and in case that the Abhul patriarch asked for votes in a matter, they had the right to vote.
The Nroar Edit
The Nroar where both the traditional Nutk tattoos that identified a nutk man or woman as a clanmember and an adult, and the adulthood tests where the adfuchs youth gained the tattoos.
The Adfuchs, after passings 15 tests that showed their physical and psicological strenght, knowledge in their traditions and legends, bravery, survival and combat -thought in different clans and times, these tests and what they tested changed-, in the ceremony called Nroargemacht the youth will become Nroarer, young adults, marked with the tattoos of their clan.
Each clan had their own markings in shape, form and colours, but normally the Nroar was visible in the face, so it would be always visible his allegiance.
-in the exceptional case somebody was expelled from a clan, there was a ritual where the outcast had his skin cut with the clan markings-
