The Purple Party of the High Elves of Ushaenor

The Purple Party is one of the two basic political parties that the High elves of the 'elf continent' of Ushaenor follow and support. The party is based largely on rule of magic and is an 'international' organization and philosophy that supports various magicracies of High elf kingdoms and city states. It is the 'conservative' wing of high elf political and social philosophy.

There is not truly a single national home or central authority for either party. Instead, they are more of a pair of conflicting organized philosophies that span borders within the loose Empire of Whide Axis, Arbitrated more than ruled by the so called Emperor of the Elves. Both philosophies might well be found practiced in the same state, and often states face conflict within their borders, or even between separate states, as customs and governance systems might be at odds.

The Purple Party is based on ancient traditions.

Speculation: These traditions may have a religious component some of the time?

It is largely based on past historical events and developments. These include historical and mythological events, particularly those of the Elf wars between the High elves and the blue skinned Hakes of the fallen Hake Empire

In large measure, they believe that most of the greatest discoveries have already been made, and that they are the pinnacle of elven development, and have been for a long time. They are only interested in some advances in magic, but make innovations than revolutions that might overthrow magic traditions.

Magic practitioners tend to be given the greatest support and authority in Purple Party societies. Various particularly strong magicracies such as Dahl'Haran place enormous importance on the maintenance of wizards in positions of authority, and the development of new generations of wizards. Other states might be more short sighted about promoting new generations and maintain the aged wizards in positions of authority.

But the Purple Party generally could be said to place greater importance on those members who can manipulate magic on those who cannot. They then place greater importance on great skill, hence they value magic learning, but often see technology as a threat to the practice of magic.

The Purple Party would most likely hold dominant sway to include kingdoms and states which are mostly inhabited by Golden High Elves, or have such Golden High elves in the leading positions of power. But this should probably not be seen as an absolute rule as exceptions could easily exist.

Despite the past glories of the Empire of Whide Axis, most Purple Party dominated states prefer to be their own higher authorities, and resist any imperial mandate. This is possible as the Empire of Whide Axis was never a fully unified political system in the first place, and imperial control had greatly weakened as centuries passed. So the various High Elf states can differ markedly from each other, even those of the same ethnicities or of the same 'color' politics.

With the loss of the emperor Altarin in the 23rd Century, imperial power has fallen to the point that some High Elf states are effectively sovereign nations. These states acknowledge imperial power only as a sense of tradition and suspiciously guard against efforts to actually unite the empire and advance imperial aims.

So 'Purple States' tend to be self contained politically, and often with reduced economic and trade relations. As these states tend to be in some of the more productive and valuable lands in Ushaenor, they can often get away with this strategy.

Racially, these 'Purple States' might be predisposed against immigrants, sometimes Silver High Elves more than Golden High Elves, but always against the Hakes and mixed Darhakes, and most especially against non-elves.

Early (Before the Apparition of Humanity)Edit

It is unknown when the politics of the Empire of Whide Axis came to diverge. Most likely the seeds were laid in the prosecution of the elf wars, and 'other' High elf division of 'Golden High Elves' and 'Silver High Elves'. Most likely in that the early and mid-term victories in the elf wars laid foundations of the states most predominantly held by the Golden High Elves in the northwestern part of Ushaenor, and that they developed their own sedentary cultures and came to jealously guard their independence and greater resources as opposed to the authority of the Empire, which leadership began to shift towards the Silver High Elves who continued the late era of conquests and took on the greater amount of colonization of the continents of Aels, Zarhuy, and Hieyoks.

Age of CalamitiesEdit

Containment of the HakesEdit

Imperial power had grown, however, with the general defeat of the Hake People, the need for central authority faded.

Speculation: It is possible that the Hake remaining states were allowed to continue so as to preserve them as some 'traditional enemies'? It might also be that those wanting a centralized authority actually WANTED an avowed enemy in the continent so as to preserve the need for a centralized authority, otherwise, the empire might have fallen apart?

Development and Independence of High Elf ColoniesEdit

During the colonization efforts, scores of city-state or larger colonies had been planted and grown over almost thousand years. The colonies founded by the Silver High Elves outnumbered those of the Golden High elves, which caused a shift of power towards centralized authority. But not long or strong enough to create a unified empire. The colonies of both Silver and Gold High Elves ALSO tended to declare independence or become reluctant to support a strong centralized empire. Eventually, the colonies may have only hurt the goals of the imperialists, mostly exemplified by the White Party.

Humans and DisastersEdit

In the First and Second Centuries, word had reached the states of Ushaenor and the High Court of the Emperor of Whide Axis of a miraculously powerful new race that appeared on the continent of Zarhuy, the Humans. However, the High Court was slow to investigate, and just before a delegation was sent to ascertain the full truth of the humans, global disasters struck about the year 50 a.a.H.

So began the Age of Calamities, in which earthquakes, volcanoes and tsunamis racked all the world to some extent or another until well into the 2nd Century, followed by the Age of Invasions where Orcs and the newly appeared race of Kanovs, and now in-miraculous race of humans spread to new lands in invasions for the next several centuries. There was also the dreadful horror of the disease known as the Curse of the Doroz which killed large populations of elves worldwide.

Most of the colonies of High Elves were destroyed, particularly as so many were coastal cities. Most of the remainder were destroyed or conquered by invaders. The few that remained also maintained their independence.

Speculation: The disasters harmed many nations in Ushaenor, but those of the Golden High Elves were better able to recover and had faced less damage. The states of the Silver elves might have faced more damage, which led to more international cooperation between them. This might have further hardened the philosophies of the Purple and White Parties?

Ushaenor Faces Invasions and Human EmigrationsEdit

It is known, however, that the Ushaenor continent itself would face barbaric invasions by multiple races during the Age of Invasions. In the 6th Century, the empire would tire of defeating and fending off waves of human sea peoples and allow humans from Zarhuy (see: Latavericans) to colonize in South Ushaenor, early in the 6th Century a.a.H., and, later in the century, more human peoples to settle in the northeast of Ushaenor who would become known as the Ushavericans.

Northern Ushaenor and its majority of Golden High Elves would face off against these tides, with repeated requests for aid from the emperor often being insufficient. Hence, northeastern Ushaenor became a warzone, with the High Elves abandoning their eastern homes, and migrating west. Eventually, the Emperor of the Elves of the time decided to allow humans to remain similarly in the south, in the hopes that humans would fight humans to keep more from arriving.

This arrangement would guarantee that humans pushed against the borders assigned to them, so the high elves used tactics of 'divide and conquer' to keep the humans from uniting. Disgusted at the state of affairs, the north-western cities raised up their armies and would become more formally in league with each other, with the city-state of Dahl'Haran serving as the capital. This development may have forced the isolationist minded elves of the north to cooperate more, but it had all but broken the empire into two continental military powers of elves, unhappy and distant with each other, and each having its own segregated population of humans to worry about.

Speculation: Why didn't the emperor send stronger and more constant military force to aid north Ushaenor cities? Presumably the armies were too busy with other things. They were greatly weakened at this time, and the south of Ushaenor had always had to deal with the Hake remnants and Hake and Darhake malcontents. Additionally, a large human population had arrived and multiplied in south Ushaenor in this century as well. The high elves of the north west had a reputation for leaving the rest of Ushaenor to their own problems; so, it is not impossible that the north was meant to have to deal with their own problems 'alone' as the south 'always' had to do themselves?

White HermitEdit

It is not known when the differences between the two parties became intractable, or achieved their current form, but it is known from the recorded events of the High Elf Belád Bonceduil, often known as the White Hermit that suggest that by the 20th Century the differences had become fully dysfunctional between Purple and White political philosophies. The White Hermit having traveled about Ushaenor and facing scorn for his attempts at technological innovations which flew in the face of Purple Party dogma. Also, he was part of the White Party early in his life, and that the two parties had come to warfare that was ended by arbitration by the Emperor of the Elves.

In the 23rd Century, humans from Aels came to the High Court and begged for aid against the Demonic Dark Legion. The Emperor, Altarin saw this as an opportunity to break the deadlock against the obstructionist Purple Party, and advance imperial goals such as founding new colonies and achieving a political unity.

The event, and his uncommon strength of charisma managed to lead to the political achievement of the White and Purple Concordate in a leading 'capital' of the Purple Party of Dahl'Haran. This agreement was in itself a major event for imperial authority given the hostile relationship.

However, Altarin would ultimately disappear in the war, almost certainly killed with his death unacknowledged due to the difficult and hostile politics of the high elves. But, the Purple Party would be successful in using this 'disappearance without death' to prevent the office of Emperor from being filled again by any claimants.

This was not considered the end of the Empire of Whide Axis, but it was the end of any serious hope of restoring political unity or a centralized authority in the Empire of Whide Axis.
